Upon arriving at Newfield House situated atop a long driveway on a hill in a section of Plymouth that overlooks the ocean, I am immediately captivated by the sight of a field of meticulously planted tulips and various beds of beautiful gardens on the opposite side. The sheer effort, patience, and love required to cultivate and maintain such a vibrant display of flowers astound me. However, it is the nurturing environment within that enables these plants to flourish. Throughout my life, I have had numerous relatives and friends reside in various assisted living facilities throughout the South Shore. None of these facilities could possibly compare to this unique home where residents receive the same exceptional care, patience, and love. I visit a friend who resides there, and when I enter her quiet room while she is asleep, I am greeted by the sound of bustling activity in the hallway. I observe nurses and staff members collaborating to plan the day’s activities, working as a cohesive team to assist each and every resident. Their laughter fills the air, and I notice that someone across the hall from my friend’s room is engaged in creating flower arrangements using the beautiful blooms grown there. Each table in the dining rooms are displayed with these exquisite flowers. I see and hear kitchen staff greeting residents with warm greetings as they pass by to and from cooking homemade delicious meals. I proceed to the lounge, which resembles a grand Vermont lodge, where residents engage in exercises guided by various staff members. From my vantage point overlooking the ocean, I can observe people laughing and genuinely enjoying their work. I cannot say more about this exceptional place, except that it is truly a home to a population of elderly individuals who are not merely surviving but thriving like those flowers and living with happiness, all thanks to the remarkable people who care for them.
