It has taken me two years to write this because I wanted to be fair and not let grief alone speak for us. My father was admitted after one surgery for a replacement of his previous hip replacement. Because he had a spacer instead of a hip joint, he was not supposed to get up without assistance. After waiting for help to return to bed, he tried to do it himself and fell, requiring another trip back to the University of Michigan for additional surgery. There were staff members who showed kindness to our family, and I am grateful for that. However, we also experienced serious concerns. My father’s food was changed to a very finely pureed diet that he hated, and he gradually stopped eating, losing a significant amount of weight. The hardest part was the communication. During what would be our last visit with him, we were told he was on hospice, that his care was well documented, and that he was receiving the medications he needed. After he passed away, a staff member admitted that she had accidentally given me information from another patient with a similar name. My mother had never been told that Dad was on hospice, and the confusion surrounding his final days has never left our family. I know healthcare is difficult, and I know many people working in these facilities truly care. But families deserve timely assistance, accurate information, and clear communication. I hope sharing our experience encourages improvements so that no other family has to carry the same questions and heartbreak that we do. Sheree Canfield Daughter of William “Bill” Walker

My sister has been with medilodge of Cass city for like 3 to 4years. Yes I have had issues with them in the past and when I do have a problem I address with them.. well this is kinda the last straw. I went for a visit yesterday evening. I walk in her room an can smell a funny oder . I walk over to my sister and it's her, I look at her an her face, ears, neck, hair, her hands and under her finger nails was so dang nasty . My sister can't remember the last time they even gave her a bath.. this is so unacceptable and wrong.. you can tell that her skin hasn't had water or soap touch it in months.. I went an addressed the nurses and ask for wash cloths so I could was her face, neck, ears, hands, and her finger nails.. there was a moldy food all in her nails and yellowish brown batches of skin between her fingers. They make her eat with her hands an nails being so nasty. How is this even right..

Family members and I brought a picnic dinner up to share with our cousin. When I first entered the building I was greeted by a personable female who assisted me with my visitors badge. There were two other females in the area that also greeted me. We had the "Bird Room" to have our dinner. Everything was clean and well kept. The personnel were friendly. We had a great visit! Thank you Medilodge👍

This is an amazing facility! Having spent a lot of time in nursing facilities, I can say that this facility's heart is in the right place. If you need to look for placement for a loved one in this area, I'd definitely recommend stopping by for a tour. Great staff, clean, and it looks as though the residents are well cared for.
