My mother-in-law has had the best care there. The staff has been absolutely amazing. The only thing I would like to see changed as they need to tear up the old carpet, but she’s had really really good care. They’ve responded to her call without delay. I can’t say enough good of how well this place has been for my mother-in-law Vivian.

Marcia Good is an excellent nurse who goes above and beyond for all those whom she cares for and goes beyond caring for residents whom she may not be assigned to just to make sure all are cared for. I saw a post stating otherwise and it is such an untrue statement, a slander that it needs to be removed immediately. Good nurses need to be backed up and looks like she hasn't been by the slanderous remark by a temporary staff worker. Please remove this because a good nurse is unreplaceable and all facilities are always looking for a great nurse. Want to keep her...remove the post.

One more update: I did report them to the state and all claims were substantiated. This isn’t just a review, it’s facts now Update: look at the response from the “owner”, they clearly just copy and paste their responses. Who are they addressing? My perspective seems to be right on according to management team at the facility and the complaints I filed with the state. I stand by my original statement below. Do not send your family here. The staff takes almost an hour to come to the room If you push the button. For a back surgery patient with an infection with cancer, they don’t properly do any wound care or even check on it more than 1 time a day if “they have time”. The administrators don’t return calls, their head of nursing says they haven’t had a complaint in the 15 years he’s been there and what would I like him to do. Well do better! Take care of these people like you would your family, he laughed. Terrible attitudes they all hate their job there walking around moping no smiles or hellos. The lady who answers the phone is an absolute saint and deserves so much better. The entire facility is disgusting and dirty, it smells in there and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was infested by how gross it is. I am moving my family member asap, just got an approval from another facility. If you love your family DO NOT go here. I still can’t believe how passive the head of nursing is with just the “well what do you want me to do about it” attitude. How infuriating.

In my recent visits to Marquis to my friends Betty P, Jerry B, and Joe H., I come to know how the nurses care and knowledge is, I never let them know that I'm am an RN. In my visits I've come across an exceptional LVN Marcia your're lucky to have her, I know what exceptional care is because I was a DON at Applewood for 5 years.

This place is an absolute joke. Are you ready for this??? We were in a process of applying for our dad, who has dementia, to be placed at Marquis Shasta because they take his insurance and seemed like a reputable facility. We could no longer pay for Willow Springs, which is private pay, and a place that did such an excellent job caring for our father during his time there. He was well-loved, regarded by staff as “one of our all-stars” and was even featured in their April 2024 newsletter for his warm smile and reputation as their “resident chocolate lover.” During the application process with Marquis, Willow Springs sent over a standard referral and care plan. Upon looking at the documents, there was an obscure note written by a staff member from Willow Springs that said “Sexual Behavior” without any description or context given. When Lori, the nursing director at Marquis, saw the note, she was rightly concerned and needed to find out more. I called Willow Springs and their nurse reached out to Marquis to explain that the note was in reference to a staff member who was showering our father when he made some sort of sexual comment. The nurse at Willow Springs affirmed that there was no aggressive or threatening behavior, only a few comments like that here and there, which she said was very common for people with dementia. Obviously, sexual jokes or comments are inappropriate in the workplace by those of us who are blessed enough to have full control of our mental faculties. But for an 80-year-old stroke victim with dementia to be declined admission to Marquis for occasional inappropriate comments because his mind is half gone is shocking, unconscionable and discriminatory. Our dad is not a threat to anyone, is not aggressive, and could not be aggressive even if he wanted to be since he moves so slowly and delicately. In fact, he was already a previous patient at Marquis in 2018 when recovering from his stroke and had no negative incidents whatsoever during his short-term recovery care in their facility. Unless Marquis can prove that no other dementia patient has ever been declined or removed from their facility for similar comments, this denial is clearly discriminatory and I will be filing a complaint with the Medical Board of California. To be told that our father is “not a fit” for this facility is insulting and inhumane, to say the least, and they will be held accountable. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! Find somewhere else for your loved one. They are obviously incompetent to handle real-world circumstances when dealing with memory care patients who pose zero risk to anyone at their facility.
