Transitioning my uncle into an assisted living facility was truly one of the most difficult decisions I have ever been a part of. Finding the right place to accommodate my uncle's special needs really was a challenge. It wasn't until we found Magnolia Place of Saxonburg that I finally felt a sense of relief that we found "the one". When we arrived to tour the facility, John at the front desk welcomed us warmly and set us up to see the Executive Director, Christal. Our meeting with her was so informative. She is so very knowledgeable and her assessment of my uncle was spot on. She was very in tune to his needs, and with him being deaf, she didn't hesitate to offer to research interpreting options for him to give him complete access to communication. During our tour, we met with many staff members who really made us feel at home and welcome. He met with Anthony who is the go to guy for anything and I mean ANYTHING that my uncle would need in his room. He joked and teased my uncle making him smile and laugh. We met Amy in the kitchen who came out and started signing to my uncle. The look on his face was sheer joy to see someone trying to communicate to him in his language! She gave him a big warm hug, too. We knew immediately that this was the place for my uncle and we started the process that day for his anticipated move in!

Day of move in was a very long one. We met with all the staff from the silly and animated Roy and Liv from the kitchen to all the staff who will be tending to him like Rachel, Cate, Mackenzie, Cheyenne, Marina and so many others I can't remember names! What I loved was how motivated everyone was in learning how to communicate with my uncle. It was otherworldly!

Amy went above and beyond that it brought me to tears. Knowing that my uncle has limited reading and writing capabilities, she made a binder just for him with photos of many of the menu items that they offer during meal times on every page. Making this binder had to have been so time consuming, yet she did this just for him so that he can choose the meals and drinks that he would like. Simply Amazing!
His nurse at assessment was so sweet and caring. She made him feel so comfortable and made the medical transition super fast and easy!

Let me just say that Christal is an angel. She TRULY CARES for the residents here at Magnolia. I see it through her interactions with everyone as well as how she goes above and beyond for my uncle in so many ways. I see it and I appreciate it.

I'm so terrible with names, and I feel bad for not personally shouting out a few others. Everyone at Magnolia seems to have been hand selected for this job and I am grateful to have the peace of mind knowing that my uncle is in the most amazing caring hands.

xo
