My father was a resident here for two years.<br><br>Liza's Personal Care Home has both strengths and significant shortcomings that prospective families should carefully consider.<br><br>First, it is important to understand that a personal care home is not a skilled nursing facility. There is not a nurse on-site 24/7. Residents receive assistance with daily living activities, and medications are administered by medication technicians rather than licensed nurses. Families considering placement should understand these limitations and determine whether this level of care is appropriate for their loved one's needs.<br><br>One of the biggest positives is the small, home-like environment. The home-cooked meals are appreciated, and the setting can feel more personal and less institutional than a larger facility.<br><br>Unfortunately, my experience caring for my father raised several concerns. During his end-of-life care, there were instances where PRN (as-needed) medications were not administered because some medication technicians appeared to substitute their personal judgment for the recommendations of medical professionals. As a result, my father and our family were denied what could have been a more peaceful and comfortable passing. This was one of the most difficult aspects of our experience.<br><br>Maintenance issues were also not addressed in a timely manner. For example, an electrical outlet in my father's room remained broken and exposed for several months despite being reported multiple times by both family members and staff.<br><br>Families seeking socialization and engagement for their loved ones may also be disappointed. While a monthly activity calendar was posted, there were very few structured activities actually taking place. Many activities were not designed to include all residents, and residents who could not independently get themselves to an activity were often left out.<br><br>Communication was another ongoing concern. Communication between administration, staff, and families was often lacking. Questions were frequently met with responses such as, "I don't know, I wasn't here." This made it difficult to get consistent information about my father's care and well-being.<br><br>Prospective families should also carefully consider the facility's community fee. The upfront cost is substantial, and once paid, it can create a financial barrier to relocating a loved one if the placement is not a good fit. Moving to another facility often means paying another community fee, which may cause some families to delay or reconsider a move despite concerns about care.<br><br>Ultimately, I felt compelled to visit every day to ensure my father was receiving the attention and care he needed. While the home-like atmosphere and meals are definite positives, families should carefully evaluate whether the level of oversight, communication, maintenance, resident engagement, and overall accountability meets their expectations before choosing this facility.

Liza's Place is a comfortable, welcoming home... it is traditional and familiar in all the best senses (including home cooking). I found the visits heartening, engaging and yet relaxing. Mom took advantage of the choices: places/views and as well as things to do together. --It was fun to hear her laugh and tease...skills she still had at age 94. --Your size and ambiance were truly helpful.<br>Staff were effective... seemed "tuned in" to Mother's priorities... which could be somewhat shifty. Toured and like the facility. Staff were friendly. Smell of apple muffins was in the air. Residents looked happy. Price comparable to others we looked at for our mom. Thanks for the great tour.
