My mother just turned 100 years old and is still in her apartment (independent living) at LCG. California law requires that retirement communities be allowed to move residents to assisted living at their discretion. What I have found as my mother ages is that Residential Health Services (RHS) provides a number of services that help residents to stay in their apartments as long as possible. These services include toenail clipping every other month, changing of hearing aid filters twice per month, transportation to medical appointments, bandaging after surgeries or radiation, and medical management. Medical management is provided at an additional cost, and the flexibility and reliability of this service is quite impressive. My mother and I went to RHS two months ago to learn about it. In order to receive medical management, you agree to the monthly cost, get an updated prescription list from your doctor, and hand over any current prescriptions. Medical management can start immediately. You set a schedule of two hour windows for up to three times per day when a med tech person comes to your apartment and administers your prescription — basically gives you your prescriptions and watches you take them. There was a transition period to determine the best window of time for my mother to get her prescriptions as she takes advantage of the socializing around coffee and pastries that starts every morning after 8 and goes to exercise class three times per week at 10. The med tech people learned that she was most likely to be back at her apartment after 9. There also are provisions for the med tech people to leave the prescription in the apartment if family is visiting and my mother won’t be in her apartment during her scheduled time. I stayed with my mother for part of this month and was able to meet the med tech people who came and found them very cheerful and reliable. They have keys to access the apartment so they need to have a high degree of integrity. What a wonderful service!

I travel often for work and spend time at numerous senior living communities across California and La Costa Glen deserves 5 + stars! The warmest welcomes and the camaraderie at the community is real. I love how everyone calls each other by name and stops to really visit with one another regardless if they are a resident or staff member. The community is also gorgeous! The grounds are beautiful, the open spaces are inviting and the culture at La Costa Glen always encourages you to stay a little longer..a true California gem!
