Before I started with J and J, I used to worry about my mom daily. I no longer do. I have been using J and J Homecare for over a year now. My mom lives in an independent living community which encourages their tenants to age-in-place (also amazing— Camellia Gardens, Maynard MA). It is the only agency the apartment managers have invited in-house because they are so responsive. They even have their own office in the building. I started using them because of my mom’s dementia and physical limitations. Although I live nearby, I can’t always be right there for everything. With J and J, I have stopped worrying about my mom’s daily care. They are always stopping in and checking on her, taking care of anything she needs, from a clothing change/shower/laundry situation to finding her with very low blood sugar and immediately contacting me with the immediate decision to call 911. Their nursing managers, Laurie and Lissette, are also top notch and amazing and so helpful. I can’t say enough nice things about them. Starting with LIssette: I had a lot of issues getting my mom’s long-term care insurance to start paying, all on the insurance side. Lissette worked with me over so, so many weeks, with weird requests by the insurance and disappearing documents. With Lissette and I going through the issues one-by-one, we finally worked everything out and my mom’s insurance is now paying for all the services. Lissette has also helped me get help for my mom quickly, for an urgent but not critical situation, way faster than I could get there. She is truly the best. And now, Laurie. Wow…I can’t say enough nice things about this woman. I had a lot of concerns about how much help my mom would need. Laurie was great in talking me through the services so I knew what they could do. A few months in, my mom started falling at night, and I had to call the fire department to help her back in bed. This happened a few more times over the next several months and I got really worried. I talked through the situation with Laurie and she helped me make modifications to my mom’s living space that she thought was causing the falls. One of the main issues was bed height. I brought in a shorted bed, but also asked for overnight care for a week so we could make sure my mom was okay and it was just the bed. I was worried that my mom’s night-time independence was gone and she would need overnight care. Laurie talked me out of a panic spiral and reassured me that this was just a temporary situation and if she thought it was more than that, she would tell me. No BS. I rely on her opinion and guidance more than she knows. Overall, I have been so impressed with this company, their hands-on care, ease of communication, especially in emergency situations, that I cannot say enough good things about them. Give them a chance. They will impress you.
