I don't even know where to begin with this review of Island Pines, the owners, and their staff. I am an RN so I tend to be very cautious when making such an important decision. My dad had dementia and as happens so much with this disease he ended up hospitalized with pneumonia and quickly went downhill. I was caring for him with no family support other than my wonderful husband and we were also caring for his mom with advanced cancer. I have known and trusted the owners of Island Pines for many years. She is also an RN so that brought me great comfort. Thankfully when I made the phone call to her when he was still in the hospital they had an opening and he was able to go there after discharge. I was doing everything in my power to keep him out of a nursing home. Island Pines is the furthest thing from a nursing home. It is a home. A home with wonderful, amazing, skilled, and caring staff. A home with home cooked meals, private rooms, a garden and so much more. With only six residents it truly felt like a family. I was able to take a deep breath for the first time in years because I knew he was being cared for and loved. Please, please if you find that you are needing care for a loved one, call them. My dad passed away peacefully there and they all made him comfortable and gave him top notch care. It made a heartbreaking time easier because I got to be his daughter not just his caregiver because of the wonderful care they provided. It was a gift given to me by everyone there and I can never thank them enough.
