For the first time in her life, my mother needed assistance with daily living in her home. At 86, she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and was mostly confined to a wheelchair. With her children living out of the area, I urgently needed to find caregivers who would take care of her and her home, and treat her with kindness, compassion, respect and dignity. After interviewing several agencies on the phone in central and western Connecticut, I instantly connected with Sharon at Home Instead Senior Care in Trumbull CT. My mom and I met with Sharon and not only did we appreciate her ability to accommodate exactly the schedule we requested, she spent time reviewing the home to make sure it was safe for my mom. Sharon also gave us helpful advice including getting a lock box for the door as well as keeping a chart for her daily medications, and she made wonderful recommendations for nutrition. After we started using Home Instead, we learned that someone is literally on-call 24/7 and their customer service is outstanding. While all of the above impressed me, what was truly extraordinary were the caregivers she selected to assist my mom. Every single aide assigned to her case was compassionate, tender, kind, helpful and attentive. They did her grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, cooking, and ran errands. They were always on time or early, and when needed, they stayed late. When my mom was readmitted to the hospital, Sharon allowed us to go day-by-day, without fees, while still keeping my mom's aides available for her return home. It would have been extremely difficult for our family to honor my mother's wishes to live at home at this time in her life without all the wonderful people at Home Instead. We are so grateful to the entire staff, and especially the outstanding care givers, for the peace of mind they have given us, and the incredible care they have given to my mom.
