About Home Instead

Home Instead in Lexington, South Carolina, provides home health and hospice care, serving clients in their own homes. The service operates around-the-clock, with caregivers supporting individuals recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions, and living with dementia and other complex needs.

Most families report strong relationships with their assigned caregivers. Reviewers consistently praise Home Instead's ability to match the right caregiver to each client's needs—one family noted that after their mother's bypass surgery and subsequent Alzheimer's diagnosis, the company found caregivers who understood her routines well enough to reduce her anxiety. Families value the peace of mind that comes from having trained support during the day while they work or manage other responsibilities. One long-term client, a quadriplegic using the service for three years, expressed contentment with the company's flexibility in adjusting caregiver assignments to meet individual needs.

However, the reviews are not uniformly positive. Some families report serious concerns, including allegations of theft, inconsistent service quality, and high caregiver turnover. One family described caregivers sleeping during shifts and failing to help with basic tasks like meal preparation.

Home Instead holds a 4.5/5 rating across 32 reviews on Google, reflecting notably divided experiences among families served.

For the past 6 years Home Instead has helped me care for my Mother who is 101 year old in her home. While I am with her 3 days a week, Home Instead is there the other days to care for her around the clock. While she has dementia and cannot remember names, she recognizes the Caregiver's smiling faces. They know her routines and are able to keep her on schedule which lessens her anxiety. Because of their kind and gentle care, I do not worry if she is being cared for when I am not with her. The same Caregivers have been caring for her since we began working with Home Instead. These Caregivers are like family. The office staff is exceptional and always so very helpful, kind and considerate if there needs to be a change in the schedule. So many thanks to all the staff at Home Instead.

My original review (below) was done after I had been with Home Instead for one year. It is now going on three years and I couldn't be happier with my care. I am very pleased with Home Instead's willingness to work with me in making sure I have the best caregivers to meet my needs. Thank you. I am a quadriplegic confined to a wheelchair. I have been injured for over 30 years. In the past six years I have had caregivers from several companies. I recently switched to Home Instead. As a veteran I had to make sure I went with a company that was on a VA approved provider list. My initial contact with Tiffany was very pleasant. She asked a lot of questions and I could tell immediately she was very concerned about getting me the right kind of caregiver that could meet my needs. I have a caregiver come in the morning to get me up at 5:30 AM. They help me with getting dressed, brushing my teeth, fixing my breakfast, and preparing a lunch that I can eat later. They are only with me for about 3 1/2 hours in the morning. At night another caregiver comes at 6:30 PM. The evening caregiver fixes my dinner, helps me with bathing, and puts me in bed. So far I have been very pleased with the caregivers and the office staff. Tiffany continues to follow up and make sure things are going smoothly.

Worse caregivers i have ever seen. several stole from us. and the other one slept all day. one guy laid in the middle of the floor in my husbands bedroom and slept almost the entire shift. so after i decided not to use them anymore they continued to take money from my account without my authorization. i called the office several times and had a friend call for me and they kept telling us that someone would call back and no one ever did. finally got someone on the phone a week and a half later and they told me i would be receiving my checks in the mail. i would never recommend them to any family

Their only good caregiver quit. No one fixes my mom's lunch . They sit and eat theirs while she tries to fix hers. Too many subs and they have no idea what to do.

Home Instead was a blessing to my Mom and I following her by-pass surgery. It gave me peace of mind knowing there was someone taking care of my Mom when I could not be there. They were so wonderful to work with that after my Mom was diagnosed with the early onset of Alzheimer's disease, we went back to them for help once again. They are wonderful at getting the right fit of a caregiver for my Mom. They were also great and getting a fill in when the regular caregiver was unable to come out so she never missed any care. I would highly recommend Home Instead for any of your home health care needs. They treat my Mom just like family.
