What a clown show. Friend got hurt and they been playing with him for 6 months. Getting in his way of getting fixed for 6 months. 3 surgeon giving him the run around so far. Run and run fast

Resident since February 2003, this place welcomed and treated veterans with respect. Doctors, nurses, social workers and the rest of the HVH employees worked together and coexisted with residents like a family, or a well mannered neighborhood. The home is currently is under a different administrators with a great decline in the manner of living and care. Medical care is less than satisfactory without a permanant doctor. The policies are continually alleviating any positive conditions that existed from the earlier home conditions and filled with threats of eviction for homeless veterans. There is always hope that the home will be the fine institution of it's once former self. Some of our country's veterans currently in service will need places such as Hollidaysburg Veteran's Home to look to,when they return. So we shall continue to work on the morale and attitudes for brighter days. 10 years have passed and the Veterans Home has been through quite a number of changes, faces and building upgrades are constant. Though many of the services that were in place when i arrived are no longer available, i can honestly admit that the home's staff and employees are doing their best to take care of our residents. So, even with my complaints and misgivings from previous attitudes, i can only recommend visiting the home and decide for yourself if you wish to be part of a rebuilding community. And thank you to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home for enduring and taking care of me.

This is for all of you who are trying so very hard to make that awful decision where to place your Dad/Mother when you finally admit you just can’t give him the care he so justly deserves! My sister and I have walked this path and I want everyone to know that it still hurts that Dad is away from us, especially during Covid-19! This is why I am writing this... the people at this facility are absolutely amazing! I mean everyone! The wonderful guards, who greet you with a smile; the office staff, who will bend over backwards just to help make your dreams come true; the staff who actively care for Dad, who will sit with him, read the Bible to him (which he loves), laugh at his jokes(even if he can’t actually get out the punch line because he loses his thoughts so easily, dance with him (even though he’s in a wheelchair) and give him hugs and treat him like he’s their own grandfather!!!! This past year has been so hard, but we even got special permission to spend a little time with him on his 99th birthday! They even bought him a sash stating “I’m 99 years young today”, signs, balloons and so much more! As hard as it has been for us, this crew has maintained dignity and shown their true grit! I AM PROUD TO SAY MY DAD IS A PART OF HOLLIDAYSBURG VETERANS HOME!

Poor health care and strict rules. Your treated like a 7 year old with brain damage. There’s no Camaraderie friendship understanding and things to do. God help you if you’re handicapped you have to fight for things that can help you and then takes weeks to months to get thingsi . The commandant and #2 only care about there jobs and will do anything to protect it. Especially during the pandemic like confinement for the residents. And care less about how the residents feel. One thing there great at is propaganda, they can say anything they want cause there’s no one to answer to cause they tell Indian town gap how good things are here and most residents wil probably agree cause they have been programmed that way and that’s easy to do. Also Blair county Ombudsman isn’t worth anything. I filled a grievance in January or February with the Ombudsman and never heard anything about it.. I asked about it with a social worker and he sad it was taken care of. Wonder how they took care of it with out me or me signing off on it. The last 2 residents council presidents have brain damage and can’t or won’t do anything for the rest of us especially during the pandemic So no complaints there happy. If you come here you do have the right to stay in your room and watch old TVs shows your brain won’t last long.and you’ll be happy.

Words can't describe the helpless feeling I held in January. Being harassed by the administration. after having all my belongings, less 1 pair of boots taken and locked in a shed for just under a month without word on when or if I would have my property returned. I decided that I would move out 1st Feb and informed staff. The following day 5 people were in my room telling me to leave they were inspecting. Being a little ticked off hearing a nurse ask the administrator "do you think we could get away with not giving back the deviding curtains because they don't block sound" I proceeded to leave the room saying something along the lines of god I wish I could move out now. The social worker of all people then decided to ask me 4 times when are you leaving to my final reply was now. I left with the clothes on my back and about $20 not knowing what I was going to do. Needless to say this may have been an isolated issue but all veterans living there are allowed no less than $150 a month and if they have a larger income the home collects 80% of all income including VA disability, Social Security Benefits, and any types of retirement/ pensions. Knowing that please if you have a family member thinking of going there just consider if there are better nursing homes that don't have such a hefty bill.
