My mother lived at Highland Cove for six years, first in independent living and later in assisted living. The community’s strongest features are its attractive grounds, pleasant outdoor spaces, and convenient central location in Millcreek.

Unfortunately, our experience with the administrative and operational side was inconsistent. Response times for non-urgent maintenance were often very slow. At one point, my mother’s refrigerator remained broken for months. Room cleaning was marginal and did not consistently meet expectations.

Staff turnover was also a significant concern. During my mother’s six years at Highland Cove, there were four executive directors. New leadership was not always clearly announced, and calls were often slow to be returned—or not returned at all. Nursing leadership also experienced frequent turnover, and it was unclear whether the assisted-living activities director was ever replaced. Many times I would have to leave multiple messages to get issues resolved. The housekeeping is minimal and surface level.

The facility itself is dated, and the food was adequate. Highland Cove has a lovely setting and a good location, but it would benefit greatly from more stable leadership, stronger communication, better housekeeping, and more timely attention to maintenance. As a corporate owned facility, we though they would have received more and more professional services.

I took a tour of this facility. I was delighted with the beautiful outdoor spaces. Everyone we spoke with seemed very positive and friendly. It seems like it would be a very nice place to live.

If you care for your loved one, DON'T have them live here!!! They can't keep staff to save their lives, they are unprofessional, don't care about their residents, especially their safety. My grandma has lived there three years and I have put in 5 requests for a simple grab bar, and they can't be bothered to put it in. Their "hotel" is a joke and no one will help you if they need anything. When touring the place, the sales director pulled me aside and said, "I want her".... It is 2022 at that time, I didn't know you could own a human. Since she has lived here, there have been 4 executive directors. There are never servers, the place is dated and disgusting and no one seems to have pride in their work.

Run..... just RUN!
