If your loved one has major health concerns or cannot properly advocate for themselves for whatever reason please DO NOT BRING THEM HERE. I am positive there are many members of the staff that are truly trying their best, but they are overworked and you have to cross your fingers that you will be assigned good staff. I highly regret bringing my dad here and feel terrible for putting him in a facility that treated him like this. I strongly believe that the poor care he received contributed to a VERY rapid decline in his health, all within the span of only 2 days before I chose to discharge him. Again, I understand the staff is likely trying their best. But I also work in healthcare and this was not an acceptable level of care and truly shows neglect and borders abuse. It all started when we made a phone call just to try to get more information; whoever answered the phone would not give us even a rough guess of how many residents they have. Now I know it is because they did not want us to do the math of how understaffed they are. The only people that were truly helpful and even gave me time of day to update me on how my dad was doing was the therapy staff (PT and OT). Renee, the nurse, was also helpful when she was able to make her self available but she is so obviously very overworked. My dad is not able to properly advocate for himself due to brain cancer, but we were promised they would be able to provide the care he needed. Every time I walked into his room, I found my dad sitting in the wheelchair, too weak to even hold his own head up. Sure they got him up out of bed every day, but there is no care to even notice that he is uncomfortable and miserable sitting in the wheelchair all day. The recliner is right next to him, but they do not care enough to provide anything other than the bare minimum. He was trying to hold his head up with the little muscle strength that he has in his right arm, after sitting there for likely several hours.Additionally, his pillows were on the dirty floor. And I'm sure the pillow cases do not get changed daily. One of the times I walked in, there was Gatorade covering the entire tray table in front of him, all over the floor, and in his lap while he sat there either unknowing or helpless. I am the one that cleaned up the mess and alerted the staff. Luckily I have photo proof of this. At this point, I asked staff for an honest answer of how often they are checking on him and she could not give me an answer "we come as often as we can, it's suppose to be every 2 hours". At least they were offering him the gatorade that I brought for him. They also shaved my dad's goatee off ON DAY 1. Mind you, this is not something that he can fully consent to and there is no reason it was necessary. He is not strong enough to shave himself, and I am very sure this was done by staff. I appreciate that they are trying to promote hygiene, but there is no reason to do that when he came in looking perfectly presentable, with a well-kept goatee that he has had for many years. It feels absolutely dehumanizing, as if this was somehow inconvenient to someone. I also noticed several new bruises all over my dad's arms. I pray that this is not due to them pulling and yanking him around aggressively, simply due to something else. I have photos of these bruises as well. I cannot imagine the care that someone like this would be receiving if they are not able to have family there multiple times a day to check on them and advocate for them. I am posting some of the pictures that I have in attempt to show the truth and provide a reality check for those who are considering coming to this facility.
