My 98 year old father spent the last few months of his life at Heritage Lakeside. The staff was caring, kind, and felt like extended family, taking a genuine interest in Dad. He felt loved. We as a family, felt that he was loved by the staff as well. (There are too many staff members to mention by name - fearing I'll forget someone.)

Our family entrusted this facility with the care of our father during the final weeks of his life. We understood that he had terminal Stage IV cancer and that his condition would decline. Our concerns were never about his diagnosis—they were about the quality of care, communication, compassion, and dignity he received during the time he had left.<br><br>Throughout his stay, we repeatedly experienced poor communication and conflicting information from staff. We often felt we had to advocate for him just to have our concerns heard.<br><br>One of our biggest concerns involved his comfort. During one visit, I spent approximately three hours with my father while he was in obvious distress. He cried out in pain repeatedly, struggled to get comfortable, and was unable to rest for more than a few seconds at a time. When I asked about pain medication, I was told there was no morphine available and no prescription at the pharmacy. We later received conflicting information from hospice regarding his medication, leaving our family with many unanswered questions.<br><br>Our family was later informed that our father, who was on hospice, went approximately 23 hours without receiving pain medication despite having medication ordered for his comfort. Watching someone you love suffer at the end of their life is something no family should experience. Sadly, our father passed away one week after this incident.<br><br>We also experienced extended call light response times, sometimes waiting 20–25 minutes for assistance. During one visit, we were told that getting meals to other residents was more important than changing our father after we expressed concern that he needed assistance. That response was heartbreaking to hear.<br><br>We frequently found his room smelling strongly of urine, observed open urine containers placed next to his food, and felt that the cleanliness of his room did not reflect the dignity every resident deserves.<br><br>There were also times when we felt our concerns were minimized rather than taken seriously. As family members who knew our father well and spent countless hours at his bedside, we simply wanted to ensure he was comfortable and receiving compassionate care.<br><br>Not every staff member was unkind, and we are grateful to those who treated our father with compassion and respect. Unfortunately, our overall experience left our family deeply disappointed and heartbroken during one of the most difficult times of our lives.<br><br>If you have a loved one in this facility, my advice is to visit often, ask questions, document concerns, and advocate for them. Your presence matters.<br><br>This review reflects our family's personal experience and is shared in the hope that future residents receive the comfort, dignity, compassion, and respectful care that every person deserves at the end of life.

My experience with Heritage Lakeside has been fantastic!! The residents are awesome! The team is amazing! I highly recommend Heritage Lakeside; whether you have a loved one needing a longtime home, a short term rehab stay or if you are wanting to be part of the team. It’s a welcoming place for all!!

My gram was placed here because of a stroke. We only put there there because the damn doctor that she had at the hospital said she didn't have the will to move around. That note ruined her life she went in because of a stroke and left three and a half months later with kidney failure and died less than a week later. I would try and call her every day to make sure she was OK. Gram only answered maybe four times a week. Half the time she didn't know where her phone was. I called her one night to check in and she didn't answer. I called them to see if they could check if the phone was out of reach of just dead. Well while I was on the phone with them I could hear my gram in the background screaming at the top of her lungs. I could tell she could tell I was trying to reach her and she couldn't get to her phone. They couldn't give a damn about my gram. They took that note in her file and ran with it. I definitely miss her. She was joking a month after that she would walk home as soon as she could walk. We live over 2 hours away from this facility. 3 months later she was dead. This place also had the audacity to not tell us she had been transferred to the nearest hospital the week before she passed. The nurse when we did find out said she thought gram had no family. Within an hour 1 showed up and within 4 hours 3 more showed up. By the next day 6 of us were there. When we told them that herritage didnt call us they were confused. It took me calling her to find out she was in the hospital. Definitely don't recommend this place. This place is way under staffed and horrible to the residents. Would give it 0 stars if I could

You can tell Heritage Lakeside has worked on improving the facility with new flooring and paint. The room my family member was in was very nice, clean and updated. Staff were wonderful and always kept me updated. Keep up the good work on improving the overall facility!
