My family member was a resident at Hearthwood in Watkinsville for nearly two years. Upon moving in, we were assured the facility would be able to care for my family member as long as needed. The place was owned by a different company at that time but no new agreement was made when Hearthwood took over. Without warning or obvious reason, we received an eviction notice in June. We were given 30 days notice to move our loved one out of the facility.

While at Hearthwood, care was highly variable and generally not what was promised. The facility seems understaffed and the staff is often on their phones instead of providing care. One of our family visited daily and regularly had to voice concerns about frequency of checking the patient and care in general. For example, my family member regularly had bruises on their hands and arms from where their wheelchair was run into a table edge at mealtime and they were frequently not changed during the night. As a result their clothes would be soaked (up to the neck) with urine in the late morning.

I hope they get things together to better care for remaining residents. The move to a different facility was very stressful and hard for my family but we are very glad to be out of Hearthwood.
