To make a long story short, my sisters and I needed to find a place for Dad to go short-term for rehabilitation following a hemorrhagic stroke. As much as we hated to do it, we had no choice as he needed physical therapy and was only able to have PT come into his home once a week. I am a nurse, but I am a daughter first, and had reservations about anywhere that he would go that wasn't with us. Our very first day here, we were greeted so warmly. I stayed with Dad until bedtime the first day, and the nursing assistant that came to bring him out to the dining room noticed that his hair was messy from laying down and she gently said "Should we comb your hair?" It sounds so small, but that simple act of kindness and respect of dignity was huge. And this kind of treatment continued throughout his stay. Everyone we encountered during every interaction we witnessed was professional, caring and compassionate. One could say, "well of course they're caring when you're around." and I can say with complete confidence that this was not a show. We could not say enough good things about them and complimented them often. They far exceeded our expectations. Dad even said "those girls really spoiled me." and was crying when saying goodbye to them (after few short weeks). The PT was wonderful and challenged him without pushing too hard. I could go on and on, but hope that this helped you make a decision if looking for care for your loved one.
