The Gardens at San Carlos

The Gardens at San Carlos is an assisted living community in Tucson, Arizona, providing support with daily activities including bathing, dressing, mobility, and medication management. The small scale intentionally reduces confusion and anxiety by limiting new faces and confusing layouts, there are no elevators or long hallways.

The on-site administrator has extensive training in dementia care. Training is ongoing rather than a one-time requirement, and the team is trained to recognize and respond to residents' needs with attentiveness suited to smaller settings.

The Gardens is locally owned and operated, offering families direct access to management without corporate intermediaries. Residents and families benefit from knowing staff members personally and receiving individualized attention throughout their stay. One family noted that residents are allowed to bring pets, and visitors are welcomed daily.

The community accepts private pay and long-term care insurance but does not currently accept Medicaid. Monthly rates vary based on room type, accommodations, and level of care needed. The Gardens does not admit individuals who self-harm or pose danger to others, or those requiring IV antibiotics or ongoing skilled nursing beyond home health services.
