I would strongly caution families considering Florham Park Rehabilitation Center for a loved one’s care. Our experience was deeply upsetting due to repeated neglect, poor communication, and inadequate care. Basic hygiene was not maintained. When my father arrived, his hair was clean and brushed, yet staff failed to care for it, causing severe matting that eventually required my fathers beautiful long hair to be shaved. Prior to the buzz, I showed the facilities manager my father’s hair and expressed my concern about the negligence in care. We were then billed for the haircut. I did send a letter to the facility requesting the charge to be removed in which I was ignored. I just received another bill. I often arrived around noon to find him still in bed, unchanged, soiled briefs, without breakfast, and without basic care such as brushing his teeth. Dad was hardly able to advocate for himself and required one on one assistance with all tasks including feeding and hydration. Meals were not handled appropriately and many times were found at his bedside cold and untouched. The physical therapist often spoke inappropriately to my family and I regarding my father’s disease progression. This therapist was out of line and inappropriate on numerous occasions. Most concerning were the issues involving his swallowing and breathing. My father had documented swallowing difficulties and required thickened liquids, yet this was discontinued. I requested a speech/swallowing reassessment, however, was ignored. Dad also complained of difficulty breathing for three consecutive days, and those concerns were ignored and no communication was shared with family regarding his difficulty breathing. Dad finally went to the ER on his own request, not theirs, where we learned he had aspirated fluids in his lungs, norovirus, and inadequate levels of oxygen provided by the facility. Communication from staff was extremely poor. Emails went often unanswered, concerns were ignored, and our family received little to no meaningful information about his condition. Because of serious concerns for his safety and wellbeing, we ultimately removed him from the facility. Families deserve compassionate and attentive care. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at Florham Park.

My mother was in Florham Park Rehab for approximately seven weeks. I have nothing but rave reviews about this facility. It is immaculate. The rooms are all private and beautifully decorated. The courtyard, when the weather was nice is a magical place for patients to get fresh air. The admin was wonderful, which includes Michele and Leigh, the nursing staff and aides were all caring & attentive. Kudos goes out to Jason in rehab. Eric in social activities always found ways to brighten the room and keep patients entertained. Gabbie, Sudan, Geraldine, Lawrence….fantastic. Elias in food and beverage was always so pleasant and kind to chat with. Overall we had a fantastic experience. My mother gained strength and loved being in this environment. I highly recommend this facility & if my mother needs additional rehab, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring her back. Janine Silverman

If you care about your loved one, this is not the facility for you. The experience my grandmother had at this facility was inhumane. Upon arrival, we were brought to the room assigned to my grandmother. Not a single staff member came to check on her during the first hour. After I went to the nursing station to ask whether a skin evaluation would be completed and the admission process would begin, it still took roughly another hour before anyone came to start the assessment. After leaving the facility a little before 10 pm the first night, we said goodnight to my grandmother and went home for the evening. I will acknowledge one of the only positives of the facility, which is that they do allow family members to stay past visiting hours with patients. I did appreciate this, as it helped keep my loved one feeling safe and comforted in an unfamiliar environment. That being said, when I returned the next day around 1 pm, I found my grandmother still in bed in her pajamas, covered in coffee and food, with a nearly full tray still sitting beside her. There were no staff members in sight. I had to locate an aide and ask why she had not been helped out of bed or changed by the middle of the day. An aide then came, somewhat reluctantly, to assist her. In addition, during admission, we were told she would receive a therapy evaluation the following day so she could begin physical, occupational, and speech therapy. We were informed it would likely take place in the morning, which is why I arrived in the afternoon. When I learned it had still not happened, especially after seeing her condition, I was extremely frustrated that this was our first experience with how my grandmother was being cared for at Florham Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. When I asked the nurse about therapy, I was told they did not know and that it was not their responsibility, and that I would need to speak directly with rehab staff. I went to the rehab gym and found no one there. After waiting a while, a therapist eventually arrived and said the evaluation would not happen that day and would be pushed to the following day. This was once again extremely frustrating as In a rehabilitation setting, every day should be focused on recovery, not patients being left in bed unattended. Eventually, after requesting to speak with the director of rehab, there was suddenly availability for the therapists to evaluate her the day we were told it would take place. After an already troubling first 36 hours at Florham Park Rehabilitation Center, the following day I arrived first at 7 pm after my workday and found my grandmother sitting in urine and feces. It was not a minor situation. The urine had soaked through her clothing and onto a significant portion of the bedding. This was deeply upsetting to witness in a facility that is supposed to provide care and dignity during recovery. I once again had to go to the nursing station to alert staff, as she had clearly been neglected for many hours. At this point, it became clear that Florham Park Rehabilitation Center was not the appropriate facility for her care. This level of neglect was unprecedented compared to any other rehab center she had attended for prior strokes and was completely unacceptable to our family. We submitted a request to begin the transfer process after this experience. Unfortunately, it took nearly two weeks for the social worker, Leah, to complete the transfer. During that time, I had to follow up every two days for updates and also offered to coordinate three-way calls with the receiving facility in an effort to expedite the process.

FPK Rehab is a family friendly atmosphere while maintaining a high level of professionalism. The medical staff was always accommodating and able to address I had concerning my Dad. They showed compassion. The administrative staff, Michelle and regional director Jen are most responsive and kind.

Florham Park was an excellent experience for my brother and sister-in-law. The staff (nursing, PT, aides, front desk etc.) were nice, polite and responsive. The facility is clean and well kept.
