Clean facility. Marie takes amazing care of her residents in a home like environment. She provides delicious home cooked meals, activities within residents limitations, and interacts with each resident with wonderful care and compassion! Couldn’t ask for a better facility for your loved one!

My father's been a resident about 7 months. He has advanced dementia and other health issues. His needs were more than I could manage and he was falling. Moving him into this home was one of the hardest things I've had to do. The owner met us at the door with a huge smile and welcomed us into her home. I knew as soon as she started talking to him and working with him that this was the perfect choice for us. This is not a big box facility. You will not see anyone neglected or sitting by themselves. There is no urine odor. The house and residents are very clean. She's one on with each person. Dad sits in the living room with her or in the dining room. She always has him in sight. She caters to each persons food needs, works hard to give them what they like while getting nutrients in. Home cooked meals. I can't say enough good things. I'm so grateful to have Florida Memory Lane taking care of dad.

This facility is great, and very different (in good ways) from the usual corporate assisted living / memory care facilities. My father lives here and I am so thankful. Let me explain.

My father PREVIOUSLY lived in an Elmcroft corporate assisted living facility in Tennessee. It was close to my house, and I frequently visited and helped him find his phone and TV remote controls, and he often asked me to bring him water or snacks or soap or toiletries or light bulbs. His “med techs” changed every few months due to high employee turnover. The facility had 3 different directors during the 2 years he lived there. He frequently stayed in his room all day and all night. He often wore the same clothes (including underwear) for days at a time. He called me at least once a week and asked me to bring him something to eat because his slept/read/watched TV and missed dinner in the dining room. Although I encouraged him, he never went outside. His bathroom smelled like urine for months at a time. One day he lost his balance and fell into the aluminum sliding closet door and bent it so it wouldn’t open or close properly or stay in the track. Maintenance never fixed it so after a couple months I removed it and hung shower curtain rod and curtain myself so he could access his clothes easier. One time he fell on his face in his room and although they bandaged his wounds, nobody cleaned the pool of dried blood from his floor; it was still there a couple months later when I moved him out. (Yes, I could have / should have cleaned it myself when I visited.)

After I moved to Pensacola, Florida in 2021, I looked for a facility near me, and let me tell you, I am SO HAPPY & THANKFUL we moved him to FL Memory Lane. The differences between this locally owned facility and his previous corporate owned facility are VAST and STARK.

PROS:
- Marie, the owner/administrator, lives on site.
- the owner & employees have remained the same since he moved in, so even with dementia my dad (and me) know his caretakers, and they know HIM.
- they make sure he gets out of his room every single day and engages with other human beings.
- they make sure he is dressed in clean clothes every day. Every day. Every. Day.
- the facility and my dad’s room and his bathroom are ALWAYS clean and NEVER smell like urine.
- they take him OUTSIDE for sunlight and fresh air daily (as long as it’s not raining).
- he doesn’t miss a meal, ever.
- there are a pair of small lap dogs that live on-site. He LOVES these dogs and now he has daily access to them without having to feed/walk/clean/vet/groom them!
- the food is good.
- they give him snacks daily.
- the price is CHEAP compared to corporate memory care facilities!
- the care is GREAT!
- they/he has never “lost” his clothes.
- the place is ALWAYS CLEAN! Did I mention that already? It’s worth restating.
- Marie (the owner/admin/director) sends me pictures and videos of my dad regularly, such as him opening greeting cards from relatives, playing the piano, singing, and playing with their small dogs.
- I’ve never had to find his phone or bring him dinner or toiletries.

CONS:
- the exterior is not fancy or modern.
- the neighborhood is a little sketchy. Don’t let this prevent you from visiting in person.

CONCLUSION:
FL Memory Lane is a diamond in the rough. We didn’t know such owner-operated facilities existed. Now that we do, and have experienced the difference, we will NEVER move my father back to another corporate facility.
