During my visit to the Decatur Center of Nursing and Healing, I found the overall experience to be organized and efficient. I arrived before 5 PM and was able to engage with both the case manager and social services. They provided me with a comprehensive discharge plan and outlined the next steps, although they were unable to confirm a specific discharge date. They assured me that they would keep me informed of any updates. Upon entering the facility, I was greeted promptly by the staff, which created a welcoming atmosphere. I was pleased to see that the staff recognized the patient I came to visit, indicating a personal connection to the residents. Throughout my visit, the team remained focused on the care of the patients and demonstrated a high level of attentiveness, even amidst their busy schedules. Ebonie, in particular, took the time to discuss my father's health with me, which I found to be very supportive. Overall, the visit was productive, and the staff's professionalism contributed positively to my experience. ⸻

My mother stayed at Decatur Center for Nursing and Healing, and our experience raised serious concerns regarding patient care, dignity, and safety. She was repeatedly left waiting extended periods for assistance after pressing the call button, at times resulting in her being forced to urinate on herself. Staff also indicated that patients are often expected to use diapers rather than being assisted to the restroom. There were also significant concerns with respiratory care, including being left without proper breathing support and oxygen for extended periods. At one point, staff replaced her oxygen concentrator with a lower-capacity unit rather than troubleshooting the existing machine, resulting in her receiving less oxygen than prescribed for over 24 hours. The original unit was later fixed in less than 10 minutes. After concerns were raised, responses from some staff were dismissive, and I felt it was necessary to be present nearly every day to advocate for my mother and ensure her basic needs were met. Due to the seriousness and pattern of these issues, I have formally reported this facility to state regulatory agencies for investigation. Families should remain actively involved and vigilant when placing loved ones here. Update: Following the facility’s public response asking me to contact them directly, I want to clarify that I already made multiple attempts to address these concerns privately with facility leadership and staff during my mother’s stay and after her discharge. Despite those efforts, I did not receive meaningful follow-up or resolution regarding the concerns outlined above. I would also encourage families to look beyond ratings alone and remain actively involved in their loved one’s care. My experience at this facility was very different from what the overall rating may suggest. 7/1/2026 Update: Since posting my original review, the Georgia Department of Community Health investigated the concerns I reported. I have been notified that the surveyor identified one or more deficiencies at the facility. I appreciate that my concerns were reviewed and encourage families to look beyond online ratings and remain actively involved in their loved one’s care. My goal in sharing my experience is to help other families make informed decisions.

This place has a wonderful rehab facility and the therapist are extremely skilled. Especially Michelle, Evida. And Annessa was a wonderful CNA I loved her and she was always there when called and extremely helpful. Other than that I was very unhappy with my stay.

I would not leave my worst enemy at this place. My mother was here last year and when I say the care was not good at all. When my mother doesn’t act right I threaten her by saying I’m taking her back here. The doctors were giving her medication they prescribed her without informing her or me. Most of the nurses were very rude. As a health care professional myself, it broke my heart to see how not only my mother, but other patients were treated there. I was so glad the day she was discharged. Never again will I send my mother or refer anyone here.

I was a caretaker for my grandmother for 4 years she had recently gotten sick and less mobile so we admitted her to the hospital and here after. At first it was great but as time went by I noticed the unprofessional among the staff. They don’t listen to family even if you tell them repeatedly. They failed to inform me of my grandmother being admitted to the hospital. This caused a lot of stress for me because of her age and several chronic health conditions. I removed my grandmother and now they have lost her pacemaker box and nobody can give me her medications. This will likely lead to her having to be readmitted to the hospital during cold and flu season.. it’s hard to get in contact with anybody here unless you go in person.. please if your family member is here and highly Impaired stay very involved at the facility.. this isn’t always optional for every family which is the tough part..
