After visiting this facility 2 weeks ago, I was extremely impressed with the overall atmosphere, the smiles on resident faces and their well cared for appearances! The management team made themselves ready available for any questions and were very friendly. My mother , who accompanied me was very excited that she may be living in this beautiful place. Anyone who feels otherwise, obviously needs to do some comparison shopping!! Commonwealth at Radford is the place for anybody's family member!!

I came to this community to visit a family member and to evaluate it as a potential option for other members of my family. Unfortunately, what I witnessed left me deeply disappointed.<br><br>From the moment I arrived, it appeared that this community is far more focused on maintaining appearances than providing quality care. Underneath the polished image, I observed an environment that was anything but professional. Staff members openly gossiped about one another, made inappropriate comments about residents, and spoke to residents in a manner that I found disrespectful and, at times, bordering on verbally abusive. There seemed to be very little accountability, with employees doing as they pleased.<br><br>Mealtime only reinforced my concerns. I observed roaches crawling across the floor, debris throughout the dining and kitchen areas, and tables that were so sticky they clearly had not been properly cleaned. The overall cleanliness was unacceptable. The meal itself appeared overcooked, dry, and poorly planned. The menu combinations were unappealing, especially for an assisted living community where nutrition should be a priority.<br><br>The atmosphere among the dining staff was equally concerning. The server appeared frustrated and disengaged, while the cook also seemed visibly irritated. The tension between employees was obvious to anyone in the room. During the meal, I even observed what appeared to be a mouse moving through the dining area.<br><br>As I continued to observe the community, I became concerned that several residents appeared to require a higher level of care than what an assisted living facility is typically designed to provide. I witnessed two residents on the floor at separate times, as well as individuals waiting near the medication area. These observations raised serious concerns for me about resident safety and whether appropriate care needs were being met.<br><br>I also found my interaction with the marketing coordinator to be disingenuous. While I understand that every community is trying to attract prospective residents, I felt that the presentation did not accurately reflect what I observed firsthand. My family is financially able to afford private assisted living, but if I am paying thousands of dollars each month for care, I expect a community that prioritizes its residents’ well-being, dignity, cleanliness, and safety—not simply one that projects a polished image.<br><br>Before leaving, I was given business cards from members of the management team, including Resident Care Coordinator Mariam Dean and Executive Director Melinda Collins. Seeing their names was surprising given my own personal experiences involving these individuals from their previous employment at English Meadows which has me very surprised these two are still even in this field. Based on those experiences, I would not feel comfortable placing a loved one under their leadership.<br><br>After what I witnessed during this visit, I would not recommend this community to anyone seeking compassionate, respectful, and quality care for a loved one. Families deserve transparency, professionalism, and an environment where residents are treated with dignity every single day.

Commonwealth Senior Living in Radford is like having another family!<br>The care my Mother receives is heartfelt and endearing. Activities are always fun and the schedule informs me of a full day of social and spiritual engagement with new friends and staff!<br>I must thank Tina for knowing this is the right place for Mom!<br>Warm welcomes are always received from Melinda, Nate, Cameron, Teia and so many more. Thank you all for your exceptional care ❤️

Wonderful community living community! The flowers you see once you arrive to the super cleaned area, scream HOME!! IT HAD to be moms favorite! Beautifully decorated also!
