We hired Brendan and Yael Marra of ComForCare Home Care (North Central Connecticut) to provide live-in and overnight caregiving services for a vulnerable family member with Alzheimer’s/dementia and other health needs. I want to be fair about the positives first. Early on, Brendan and Yael were responsive, personable, and flexible. They offered meet-and-greets with caregivers, appeared to put real effort into finding a good caregiver match, and their shorter minimum-hour options were helpful compared with other agencies. They also represented that if a scheduled caregiver did not show up, one of them would step in. Those things mattered to us and were part of why we trusted them. Unfortunately, our experience ended in a way that I consider extremely serious and unacceptable. After several caregiver changes, we eventually settled on one caregiver. In my opinion, there were serious problems with the care provided. We were told that a report was filed regarding one of the issues, but our family was not provided a copy. Instead of working with us to address the situation, provide a replacement caregiver, or come up with a plan to protect the client, I was told through the client’s conservator that ComForCare was terminating the relationship. I requested a phone call to discuss the situation, but they did not speak with me directly. At that time, we had more than fifty sessions scheduled for the summer, including three sessions the following week. Their decision left our family scrambling to find replacement care for a vulnerable person on very short notice. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Brendan and Yael Marra or ComForCare Home Care North Central Connecticut. If I could give zero stars, I would. The early communication and flexibility were positive, but those positives did not outweigh how the situation ended. In my opinion, the situation was not handled with the level of care, communication, and planning that vulnerable-client caregiving requires, and it caused our family significant grief and stress during an already difficult time.
