About Veterans Living

The Veterans Community Living Center at Homelake, located in Monte Vista, Colorado, is a long-term care skilled nursing facility that provides medical and non-medical care for veterans and their families. Established in 1889 as the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home, the center has a history of serving aging and disabled veterans from every major war in U.S. history.

The facility operates a 60-bed skilled nursing home with 24/7 registered nurse coverage, offering physical, occupational and speech therapy, social activities, and assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing and dressing. Additionally, the center maintains 48 domiciliary cottages for individuals who do not require 24-hour nursing care, supported by an outpatient clinic operating 11 hours daily with emergency medical care available through the nursing home.

Specialized services include short-term respite care, end-of-life and hospice services, and therapy programs for individuals recovering from qualifying hospital stays. All residents receive individual care plans and have access to physicians, social workers, and veteran service officers to support their needs.

The community is situated in the San Luis Valley between Walsenburg and Durango, surrounded by pine trees and adjacent to a lake. Residents enjoy access to on-site amenities including a post office, banking services, pool hall, chapel, and expansive grounds with several indoor common areas.

I don't like how they treat the elderly, only good thing they got is 1 cook who actually knows what the clients like. Relieved plenty of complaints from family members that they will go through your belongings when you leave and throw out items without asking you. Not only that, they won't allow you to give money to family, they control everything and are not the smartest.
