About Cedars of Austin

The Cedars of Austin is an independent and assisted living community in Austin, Minnesota, operated as a family-owned facility that has served seniors for 40 years. The community offers both independent living with on-site resources available if needs change, and assisted living services designed to meet residents' needs with dignity and understanding.

The community emphasizes aging in place, allowing residents to remain in their apartments and receive additional care services as needed, though memory care services would require a move within the facility. Independent and assisted living apartments are integrated rather than separated, facilitating this continuity of care. Residents have the flexibility to maintain their own healthcare providers or use the community's nursing staff and aides for services including personal care and nail care, with podiatry services also available on-site.

The Activities Department offers a diverse range of daily programs including exercise classes twice weekly with a professional instructor, movies in an in-house theater, cooking classes, bingo, trivia, arts and crafts, coffee hour, and happy hour. The community provides transportation via its own bus for medical appointments on Wednesdays and Fridays, church services on Sundays, and scheduled shopping and outings. The City SMART bus also serves the facility with hourly service throughout the week.

Dining accommodates individual preferences with all-day dining serving soup and sandwiches, and the Culinary Department saving meals for residents to pick up upon return. Residents enjoy flexibility in their daily schedules and can have overnight guests in one or two-bedroom apartments. The community works with the County on the Elderly Waiver Program to assist residents whose financial circumstances change.

Pets current on their vaccinations are allowed to visit for the day. The community's intimate neighborhood environment encourages connections among residents while maintaining a compassionate and safe setting.

I want to share my appreciation of the excellent staff at Cedars of Austin. The transition of moving my dad from his home in Texas to Cedars was much smoother thanks to the Cedars staff, especially Melissa Block (Community Connections Specialist). Melissa took us on a tour of the facility, sat down with us to explain everything we needed to know, and then some. My sister and I visited other facilities, but none of them were presented as thoroughly as Cedars was. It has been about 2 months since my dad moved into Cedars, and Melissa continues to be an excellent resource for me when it comes to anything related to my dad’s care or issues that come up.

Since arriving at Cedars, the entire staff has been invaluable and kind. From what I have observed and from the times I have spoken with staff, they genuinely seem to care about my dad’s care and well-being.

My husband and I toured this placed after researching state records (evaluations & citations). It was exceptional. Family run. It is obvious the clients are in the forefront of decision making. Lovely apartments with built in storage room. Lovely amenities to keep clients engaged socially and physically. Food options were excellent. Up-to-date decore. Well maintained inside and out. Friendly staff that greeted residents by name. À la cart pricing for services. Nurses on staff 24/7. Close to the doctor, dentist, downtown and across the street from a park. We both said we would retire there!

I also received a follow up call and a hand written thank you after our visit. Impressed!! That is good customer service.

Cedars has been consistently excellent starting with first tour, medical review, lease signing, move in, and ongoing living while addressing my Mum’s health issues. Each staff member has been stellar and super responsive. When mum has had health issues, there is a nurse cell phone and they have given excellent advice and worked well with the Mayo medic team. The activities calendar is packed, there is a wide variety of options, and are done by a well organized, professional team. This is a well run facility staffed with caring and wonderful individuals!

My Dad lived at The Cedars for almost six years (November, 2017 to July, 2023) and we were fortunate enough that when Mom was in Hospice Care (November, 2017) that she was able to be at peace in her own bed. Over the course of the time that Dad lived at The Cedars he received excellent care from the entire staff.

The Cedars family was such a blessing to me and my wife Denise as we lived so far away from Austin. We couldn't have asked for a better group of folks to care for Dad and they certainly made a difference for all three of us.

Dad loved to tell the story about how The Holiday Inn was where we spent our first night as a family in Austin when Hormel transferred him from California to Austin. It is incredibly meaningful to Denise and me that both Mom and Dad's last night in Austin was at The Cedars which had once been the Holiday Inn.

We cannot express strongly enough how grateful we are for everyone at The Cedars for their professional and loving care which they gave to my family.
