Cedar Lake Nursing Home is a skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Malakoff, Texas, licensed for 90 residents. The home is family-owned and has operated for over 50 years, distinguishing itself as one of the few independent nursing homes in Texas not owned by a larger corporate entity.
Families consistently praise the facility's cleanliness and odor control, a point that appears across nearly every positive review, along with the friendliness and attentiveness of staff members including housekeeping, nursing aides, and care coordinators. Multiple families highlight the quality of food and on-site culinary services, as well as the variety of activities available to residents. One family wrote that their grandmother "blossomed here" and participated actively in programs. Atmosphere and compassion in end-of-life care have also been noted as strengths. However, some families have raised concerns about management responsiveness, particularly around Medicaid paperwork processing, billing department interactions, and security protocols for residents with dementia, suggesting administrative inconsistencies despite frontline care quality.
Cedar Lake holds a 3.8 out of 5 rating across 26 Google reviews, reflecting a divided picture: roughly half of reviews are five-star testimonials about staff warmth and facility upkeep, while lower ratings cite staffing gaps, administrative delays, and billing friction. Prospective families should weigh strong caregiver feedback against documented gaps in care coordination and business office processes.

My Grandfather was in there for about a month and the service was horrible. The food was not edible, it took an hour for him to get his medications, the bedside manner was horrible and all around a terrible stay!! We do not recommend this place at all!!!

Staff is nice and facility clean. BE VERY CAREFUL with Lesa (Business Office Manager) She's super aggressive when it comes to billing questions or concerns. They try to convince your loved one right away to apply for medicaid, so they can get paid. She has zero concern about your loved one and her heart is cold as ice!! They also start trying to lay ground work for declaring your loved one incompetent of handling their finances by saying theyre showing signs of dementia. My advice..CONSULT WITH AN ELDER LAWYER!!

I just wanted to say that I was very happy to know my loved one is in a facility where people are so kind and truly want to help in any kind of way. I was impressed with the way the housekeeper was so hardworking and helpful. Dana, who is always willing to help anytime I've ever needed, is a delight. I want to make it clear I have been won over by the housekeeping and hardwork. Keep it up.
