UPDATE - 5/6/2026 What a wonderful team at Cavalier! Management has been very attentive to our needs on the road to recovery! God Bless Cavalier!! ---------- Previous Review: My loved one is at this facility. How to say that no matter where you go, there are going to be some challenges in any nursing home or rehabilitation center. I want to preface with this because true and the best thing to do is find the best place possible. I know from experience that this is the best place I have found in the Birmingham, area. I would say this is in the top 10 of all facilities in Alabama. Kudos to the staff for all their hard work and thanks to the entertainment staff for planning all the activities!

If I could give 0 stars I would. Please don’t send your loved one with a feeding tube here. They will under feed them and let them lose 150 pounds under thier care and lie about how much they feed and weigh them. My dad lost over 200 pounds at this facility and ended up weighing 150 as a 6 foot 9 man. Not to mention wound care is not held to a good standard. He got sepsis from a wound on his foot and ended up passing due to this facility’s negligence. Please don’t send your loved one here. They’ll also be more concerned about the bill than your loved one’s health.

I have friends that are currently here for rehab. They have called me MULTIPLE times saying their needs are not being met and how their RIGHTS are being taken away from them and how all the staff here are rude and ignore them when they need briefs or to be changed or any help at all. I have visited my friend and they would have urine in the floor from where staff REFUSED to give them briefs. They alerted staff hours before they would come and help and get them cleaned up. There has been times I visited and dishes would look like they were never washed and they are serving the patient's food on dirty dishes. Then I was told that the dishwasher in the kitchen is down. Then my friend has told me on multiple occasions where they would have to take COLD showers. Then my friend tried to go to administrator with the issues they are experiencing. Then the condition on how they are treated afterwards is horrible. It's like if the residents/ patients have an issue and try to go to an employee to report it they just blow it off and ignore them. I have walked into this facility and there has been blood from one end of the hallway to the next. I had to physically tell staff there was blood on the floor before it was ever cleaned up. My friend has also told me about where they have seen a patient fall and all the staff did was just put the person in bed like it never happened. Almost everytime I visit this place, there is some kind of alarm going off. Most of the time it's the fire alarm. Then one of the main doors in the entrance is broken to where it can't be used. How is that even safe? Hopefully there is never a fire at this facility. Because I have a feeling only the employees would make it out of the building. Then the temple/ church door is broken and I've actually seen the door almost fall on a patient because they bumped into it with their wheelchair. If your family member or friends are here please 🙏 think about moving them to another facility. Because this place has been the worst nursing facility I have ever stepped in. The staff is rude and horrible to the residents. Then the management doesn't take patients concerns/ RIGHTS into consideration. Then it takes hours to get your family/ friends changed. Then the hazardous conditions of this place is 🤯. I don't know who owns this nursing home but they need to look into replacing their whole staff from the management down. Because their current staff isn't caring or compassionate towards anyone.

My dad just got out of a 20 day in-patient rehab stay here. We initially had a few bumps in the road but we addressed those quickly, management was apologetic, and things were great after that. Andy is FABULOUS and has such a big heart. Catie, the administrator, took time to listen to me and hear my concerns. Dee and Sharmaine (forgive me if I'm not spelling that right) are the best CNAs around. Cavalier did a great job at increasing my dad's strength to get him ready for discharge. I can honestly say they took great care of him. He made friends there that we will continue to visit. Things can't be fixed or addressed if you don't bring them to someone's attention. Be an advocate for your people. Always. At the end of the day, if he needed to remain at Cavalier full time dad would be okay with that. And - that's saying something.

I have put off writing a review on this facility. But I finally had to say my peace. My Mom had to go to rehab there after a short stay in the hospital. She was not improving at all. There were exactly 2 nurses that showed any kind of compassion and patience. Also the OT and PT were very nice as well. Trying to get someone to com e change your parent is virtually impossible. How terrible is it to be sitting in a soiled pull up for and hour or more. Medications were not given timely and trying to get any information on her condition from a nurse was almost impossible. I have so much guilt for letting her go there. She passed away after being there for 10 days. I definitely didn't think she was in that kind of condition before going to rehab. A lot of the nurses acted like my Mom was bothering them. They would come turn off the nurses light and say they would be back. Over an hour later. I am so very disappointed in this facility. The cleanliness, caring and compassion are most definitely lacking. I wish I would have just taken my Mom home instead of sending her there. I have so much sympathy for anyone who has to put a loved one in a rehab or nursing home. Also, the front desk receptionist is not inviting or very pleasant. The weekend desk receptionist was very nice.
