Carol Woods

Carol Woods is a nonprofit continuing care retirement community in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, set on 120 wooded acres. The community offers independent living in thoughtfully designed apartments, cottages, duplexes, and townhomes within a walkable campus that emphasizes residents' ability to live with purpose, intention, and connection to the Triangle's cultural and educational resources.

The community provides a full continuum of care on campus as residents' needs change. Services include independent living support, assisted living with help for daily tasks such as dressing, bathing, and medication management in private accommodations, around-the-clock care from licensed staff in small home-like clusters with private rooms, memory care support in familiar residential settings, and rehabilitation services including physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

Rather than relying on a traditional activities director, residents lead community life by organizing programs and running more than 80 committees in collaboration with staff. Daily activities support body, mind, and spirit through aquatic classes, nature walks, fitness programs, discussion groups, and spiritual reflection. The community has been guided by its residents for more than 40 years, creating a vibrant, ever-evolving culture rooted in shared purpose and active engagement.
