About Care Haven Homes

Care Haven Homes provides memory care in Prairie Village, Missouri, operating six residential homes tucked into quiet suburban neighborhoods in the greater Overland Park and Leawood area. Each home serves eight or fewer residents in a family-style setting designed to feel like a regular house rather than a institutional facility.

The community specializes in memory care for individuals with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other forms of dementia across varying cognitive and physical ability levels. Care Haven maintains high staffing levels, typically one certified aide per four residents, with round-the-clock caregivers and licensed nursing staff. The homes are designed to protect residents while preserving independence, with private bedrooms, family-sized common areas including living rooms, dining rooms, supervised kitchens, decks, gardens, and walking paths.

Activities and daily life are structured around residents' interests and abilities. A full-time Activities Director oversees programs including gardening, baking, painting, music, movement, and games, alongside quiet one-on-one pursuits. Medical support includes the ability to accommodate hospital beds, lifts, and other medical equipment to handle complex care needs, allowing residents to transition through early to late stages of dementia without relocating.

The homes are located in suburban neighborhoods near major streets and within five minutes of interstate highways, with clustered locations in Overland Park and Leawood. Residents have access to private bedrooms, familiar common areas, and personalized care plans developed in collaboration with families. Staff monitor health carefully while treating residents as individuals rather than patients.

Care Haven Homes has been locally owned and operated since 2005, serving hundreds of families in the metro area over nearly two decades. The community uses a flat pricing structure for memory care services to limit unexpected charges and maintain predictable expenses.

A few years ago, Care Haven Homes (CHH) ratings were almost universally 5 stars. More recently, CHH gets about as many one-star ratings as five-star ones. I concur with the new reality.
There are a few absolutely outstanding care givers working at the CHH Wycklow house. These people are empathetic, attentive and tender care givers. They are most appreciated.
Most of the rest of the staff do a completely satisfactory job but perhaps with a little less empathy. However, a few of the staff are probably ill suited for this career path. These few can be physically rough when transferring and transporting residents. Some seem so addicted to their private wireless devices that they fail to: provide basic resident comfort items; to notice that residents at risk of falling are up and wondering about; to notice that residents may need authorized management of pain or anxiety meds; or fail to administer prescription meds at all.
CHH has no visible training program to establish performance standards for its new hires nor does it seem to have a routine method to observe, review and improve its existing care givers' performance. Which means you, as the resident’s loved one, will have to spend a lot of time at CHH to monitor and advocate for your loved one.
CHH is almost certainly better than almost all other local memory nursing care options. But it seems like the $10,450 monthly fee should guarantee at least satisfactory care EVERY day. 3 Stars is the best I can do.

Our loved one was only at CH for a short time during his final stage of life. We brought in private companions and hospice after 2 weeks to help with the care. CH is understaffed if your loved one needs more than minimal assistance. They also want to change care to whatever is easy and convenient for the staff without regard to hospice and family direction. The evening our loved one passed we received a call from hospice but not from anyone from CH. Hospice indicated that the CH directors did not return the calls from their CH evening staff and no one showed up to confirm the passing or help oversee the transport. The following day the family still received no calls from CH, no acknowledgment or condolences. The experience was very upsetting, sad, and unexpected for a care facility. The lack of communication and compassion was inexcusable.

We had a good experience with Care Haven Homes. They took good care of my father.

A tip for families as you search for a facility: ask if they keep a detailed care log. Do they record daily wellbeing, eating, sleeping? If the answer is no, then no one—not the staff, not you, and not your loved one—will truly know how things are going. Without documentation, there is no accountability, just a facility that collects a check every month.

Care Haven Homes understands this and provides excellent care to their residents and communicates well with families.

There is a reason Care Haven Homes has only 5 star reviews. From the owners to the nurses, to the staff - they are all the most loving, caring and compassionate people you could ever hope for. We know we would not have had our father as long as we did if it weren’t for the exceptional care he received. The homes are clean, the meals are home cooked and wonderful, but most importantly the caregivers truly loved our dad and treated him as if he were their own. We feel like they are part of our family. So many kind gestures, so much love and attention, so much empathy and understanding about the challenges of getting older. They are gifted in their professions. Their love is genuine in every regard. We feel grateful and blessed to have been part of the Care Haven family. When our dad entered the comfort care only stage, the staff went so far above and beyond to care not only for him, but for us. Truly, the best “extended family” there could possibly be. We will never forget them and be forever grateful.
