I seriously don’t even know where to begin with how thankful I am for Carissa. From the moment she walked in, I felt like I could finally take a deep breath. Recovering from ostomy surgery isn’t easy—especially with a tricky flush stoma and constant leaks that were breaking down my skin—but Carissa made it feel doable. She was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, taking the time to really assess what was going on with my wound and the awkward location/shape of my stoma. She didn’t just give me a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, she was so willing to try different techniques and products until we found what worked best for me. She taught me step-by-step how to properly change my bag, which products to use (and in what order), and how to help my skin finally start to heal. What really stood out was how she balanced her hands-on expertise with a supportive, empowering approach. She never made me feel helpless or dependent—instead, she helped build my confidence so I could take care of myself without being so scared of doing it wrong. Her calm, friendly demeanor made every visit feel like chatting with a friend, which really helped ease my anxiety. She even went the extra mile by giving me tips on which foods to be cautious with (so I wouldn’t get blockages), what to do when my output was high or I was in pain, and how to request different samples so we could test out what bags, rings, and barriers would actually work with my specific needs. I honestly learned more from Carissa than I did from the hospital. If you’re going through ostomy recovery, I highly recommend you ask for her by name. Carissa isn’t just a nurse—she’s a compassionate teacher, a patient guide, and a total lifesaver. I will miss her more than I can say! 💛
