This community is by far one of the best. I feel my mother-in-law is genuinely cared for and that the staff makes her family. I couldn't tour the building due to Covid, but from what I saw from the outside and working with the staff I'm very impressed and glad to know she is well taken care of.

This is our experience with Brookdale on El Pintado: We wanted to move our mom from a private home to a facility with more activities and more people for her to interact with. Brookdale nurse came to evaluate her and came up with a quote. Also the sales person promised to work with long term care insurance for partial reimbursement. They also told us, there will be another evaluation once she moves in, but the difference in cost would be very minimal. We agreed to the price and moved her to the facility. 3 weeks later, Brookdale notified us that they will increase her cost by $750 per month (after they did evaluation). Brookdale charges you facility fee so once you move in, if you decide to move out, they keep the fee... We argued with the managers and told them we will move mom elsewhere.... The nurse said, she will make mom "walk again" so we will not have to pay extra $750.... As you can imagine, she did not walk before we moved her to Brookdale, she did not start walking any time after.... They did not increased cost at that time, but they resisted to submit any documents to Long Term Care for reimbursement (they slowly increased her cost over a period of 6 months she was there). I tried calling them, but both managers were never available and never called or email back. I did manage to get a hold of them once in a blue moon, but nothing ever came out of it. About their services-- Their food is very poor, there is a strong smell of urine, and facility is understaffed. If you try to deliver a message about medication -- i suggest to keep calling-- they will not follow up. I know a couple of people who moved their loved once from Brookdale because they kept increasing their rent. Not everything was negative-- there were a couple of very nice people who were taking care of residence, but overall experience is one star and not worth it.
