As my mother likes to tell people she meets in her day to day life at Brookdale, "I feel like a rich Biddy living in a fancy hotel." We are there often throughout the week and she consistently says how much she likes where she is living and thanks us for moving her there. I know that may not be the case for everyone's loved one, depending on the stage of dementia.
After living with us for two and a half years, mom needed more care than we could provide. We toured and looked at memory care and senior foster care homes in Bend and chose Brookdale because of the small town, homelike atmosphere. All the staff and caregiver members contribute to a safe, caring, and engaging home for my mother as well as all of the Brookdale residents.
Amei, David and Tammy have responded very quickly to questions or concerns I might have. Kaitlyn, Becca, Stewart, and all of the rest of the med tech's and caregivers are incredible. They have a hard job, yet they do it thoughtfully and joyfully. They are also very good at meeting moms needs and letting us know if there is something else she needs or if she has had a hard night, morning, or difficulties throughout the day.
Something Brookdale has that stands out is their activities and engagement program, directed by Abbie. Abbie provides activities such as bingo, morning chair exercise class, along with many field trips and art activities, all geared for the residents who have different abilities and tastes.
Lastly, and most importantly, Amei and her staff have created and maintain a community where the residents can still experience a familiar quality of life that includes caring for each other and feeling cared for!
