Our family had a deeply disappointing experience with Birchaven Village while my grandmother was under their care. There was a significant lack of communication and professionalism from management and nursing leadership throughout her stay. Concerns and issues were allowed to build up over time without being properly addressed or communicated to our family in a timely manner.<br><br>What was especially frustrating was that my mother was present at the facility every single day advocating for my grandmother, yet the head nurse never approached her directly to discuss important matters face-to-face. Instead of open and proactive communication, we often felt left in the dark regarding situations involving my grandmother’s care and wellbeing.<br><br>Families place an incredible amount of trust in nursing and rehabilitation facilities during vulnerable times, and clear communication, compassion, and accountability should be a priority. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect those standards. I hope this review encourages improvements in transparency, family communication, and overall patient care moving forward.
