It was hard to consider moving my mother to a care home, but her safety needs as she aged became greater than we could provide for. Unfortunately, the facility I chose initially became an untenable environment for her. Desperate and worried, I set off to find a new placement. As I shared news of my search with a friend, she encouraged me to check out Avista in Ferndale. I wasn’t sure it would work because of my mom’s diagnosis. My friend insisted and spoke very highly of the building, the courtyard, the activities, and the staff. I hesitantly called and asked if it might be possible to come check it out. One phone call and I instantly felt at ease. After the tour, I knew that my friend had undersold Avista Ferndale – it is an incredibly special place! As my mom settled in, I quickly came to realize that everyone on staff cares deeply, has a heart for service, and takes the responsibility of caring for residents seriously. After living at Avista for three months, I know my mom is loved. What’s more, she knows it! She blows kisses to the caregivers and hugs the staff regularly, and I don’t think there is much more of a positive review than that. I visit often and am in awe of the care, patience, dedication, respect and kindness that everyone shows to the residents, their families, and to each other. I have received so much support and expert guidance as we have navigated some tricky situations all to the benefit of my mom. She is in an environment that allows her to live the days she has with dignity and joy. I could not ask for more. But there is more…so much more! My mom has a spacious room that is renovated, bright, clean, and comfortable. The building is spotless and always festively decorated. The courtyard is huge and beautifully maintained – the flowers are stunning! It is a lovely space to watch birds and chat and find peace. The daily activities are fun, engaging, and accessible. The special events are impressive – they are well-planned, perfectly executed and a terrific way to bring the community together. (I mean, they organized a car show! So cool!!) And the icing on the cake, Avista maintains a Facebook page and sends out a newsletter where I can see the smile on my mom’s face as she enjoys her days and I am not with her.<br><br>I am deeply grateful that we were able to find Avista Ferndale as a place for my mom to live. My only regret is that we didn’t start here, but I think having experience elsewhere has helped me realize the very special brand of magic they have here.

Shout out to Taffy and the rest of the staff at Avista. I have been struggling to find an affordable place for my grandma and they were so kind and patient. Taffy spent time with me explaining my options and providing me a tour of their beautiful building. I appreciate how helpful they were, and everyone was so friendly!!

My grandmother stayed there for several months while her husband was recovering from surgery, and the experience was truly wonderful. The staff were incredibly caring, attentive, and always willing to accommodate her needs. They made her feel welcome and supported from the moment she arrived.<br><br>She hadn’t been that lively or social in years, but during her stay she made several meaningful friendships and enjoyed participating in activities with other residents. Even now that she’s back home, she still goes back on weekends just to have lunch with the friends she made there.<br><br>It’s clear that the team at Avista truly cares about the people who live there and works hard to create a warm, engaging environment. It’s a wonderful place that really feels like a community and a place anyone would be lucky to call home.
