I am 67 year old and caring for my 18 year old medical frail and very complexed disabled granddaughter. I have been struggling with Aveanna for the last two months with an unfilled schedule. We have over 50 hours a week medicaid hours but Im only getting 2 days a week. I have to fight to get any more hours. I had a meeting with both the nursing director and office director. I was ‘t really told why they couldn’t supply more than a nurse a couple of times a week. The nursing director suggested I put my granddaughter into full time school. Her PCP has made it clear she gets home schooled due to her medical condition. I have had a few nurses here who won’t come back because of our political stance. Thy made it quite clear they would not step foot in this house if a certain person’s face was on my refrigerator. Therefor, Aveanna has been training two new nurses. Well the one nurse was very argumentative. Didn’t want to look at my granddaughters routine. She was going to do her own thing. She got my granddaughter stuck in the hoist because she had forced it to go up more than it should and then of course the hoist did not work. i wasn’t home at the time. When I got home she blamed me for not keeping the battery charged. I told her the battery is full. She continued to argue and then wouldn’t speak to me for the rest of the day. I told her that there was a release button she could have used to lower my granddaughter down. She gave her morning medications 1 hour late. Two of those medications are seizure meds . My Granddaughter did have a seizure later that night. Another thing that was a very irritating factor. She had 3 large bags which she just left on my dining table. When I asked her to move them because we wanted to eat off of it. She said that there was no where else to put them and left them on the table. She never washed up all the syringes that she used until. 1.30 in the afternoon. They were just left in the sink. I did inform the nursing director of this but there has been no communication back. Another nurse they say was trained. Gave meds this morning and completely blocked the Gtube with the Lansoprazole. She couldn’t unblock it and nor could I even using coke a cola. I told her she would have to replace it. She didn’t know how to . I had to replace it and train her at the same time. Then she went to change a diaper which had poop in it. She couldn’t do it as my Granddaughter is very stiff and unable to move herself. I had to show her the best way to move her. I then offered to show her how to do a complete bed bath and how to put clothes on her. Why are the people who are training these nurses not showing them. Each Disabled child is different. Most of these nurses are not looking at the care plan. My granddaughter has a brace to go on her right hand to prevent a contractor. However these nurses do not feel it’s important to put it on. She now has a contractor coming in this right wrist. Again I am now having to work the wrist and put the Brace on because they will not do it. I do not feel that some of these nurses are getting the training they need. It seems that Aveanna is more concerned about getting the charting done right than providing care for the individual. I have tried to make contact with the office twice last week and have just been ignored. I have no idea whats happing with the schedule. I am schedule for surgery in August and have no idea if I will have a nurse for that day. If I don’t, I will have to cancel surgery. I am very frustrated because I know this is happening to other families in my area too. The office just wont communicate with us. Brenda Wendt
