1-Star Review — A Daughter’s Experience at Autumn Care of Altavista

⭐ 1 Star

My mother, Doris A. Rowland, deserved to be treated with dignity, compassion, respect, and the same consideration that every resident deserves. As her daughter, I remain deeply disappointed by aspects of the care and, particularly, by the way concerns raised by our family were handled by the management of Autumn Care of Altavista.

What has been most troubling to me was not simply that concerns existed, but that concerns were raised and expected to receive a meaningful response, yet management did not provide the written explanation I requested.

I specifically sought acknowledgment that my concerns had been heard, along with a written response explaining and justifying an assumption that had been made regarding my mother’s quality of life. I believe that when a family member raises serious concerns about a loved one’s care, the family deserves transparency, accountability, and a response that addresses the concerns directly.

Instead, I was left feeling that my mother’s circumstances and quality of life were being characterized without the level of explanation and consideration that I believe she deserved.

My mother was more than a resident. She was a mother, grandmother, family member, and a person whose life mattered. Her dignity should never have been reduced to an assumption or a conclusion without appropriate explanation to those who loved and advocated for her.

I am sharing this review not out of anger, but because I believe families considering a nursing facility have the right to ask questions, advocate for their loved ones, and expect management to respond respectfully and transparently when legitimate concerns are brought forward.

My hope is that Autumn Care of Altavista will take concerns from residents’ families seriously and recognize that accountability does not end when a concern is raised—it begins with listening, responding, and taking responsibility.

My mother passed away on February 5, 2025. I will continue to honor her memory by advocating for the dignity and respect that every elderly person deserves.

I am continuing to seek the appropriate contact information from Saber Healthcare and/or Autumn Care of Altavista so that I can communicate with the attorneys I have been advised to contact regarding this matter.

Despite my repeated attempts to obtain this information, no one from Saber Healthcare has provided me with the appropriate contact information I have requested. I was contacted by someone who left a voicemail and also sent an email indicating that the information would be provided, but I am still waiting to receive it.

I am simply asking for the proper contact information so that I can take the appropriate next step and communicate with the attorneys I have been advised to speak with.

I have made every effort to handle this matter respectfully and through the proper channels. I am asking Saber Healthcare to please provide the information I have requested so that I can move forward.

At this point, all I am asking for is communication, transparency, and the opportunity to have my concerns addressed appropriately.

Autumn Care's staff has gone the extra mile to make Mom's transition from home to the facility successful. Her medical needs have been addressed quickly with prompt communication to the family. The facility is clean, serviced at least twice a day. Visitors are greeted by staff whether they care for Mom or just someone who passes in the hall. My family is grateful to have Autumn Care in our community and appreciate the many staff members, too numerous to name.
Janet West

Autumn Care is such a great facility. The first thing I noticed when walking in the building is how clean the facility is and how friendly the staff are.

I had the absolute pleasure of getting to tour the facility today. Felicia in Admissions is very passionate about her job and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The residents seem happy and well taken care of.

Moved my mom to this facility 2 weeks ago. Like to thank the administration and staff for making transfer easy. My mom loves the atmosphere and staff. They made her feel like she's family. Staff is always friendly and on top of her care and needs. Unlike the last place she was at. Never seen her so happy in a long time.
