We selected this small assisted living residence over a larger “commercial” facility not only because of price, but also because of the strong dedication, professionalism and empathy of the tightly-bonded staff, that has very little turnover. When the time came to make the transition to assisted living for my wife, who has both Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinson’s-induced dementia, our aging advisor, with whom we have worked for a number of years, guided me to several assisted living facilities to check out. They were all good, but after visiting Alongside and talking with the owner, Alex Park, I knew it was the best fit for us. When I informed our aging advisor of my decision, she said, “Yeah, Alex just gets it, doesn’t he?” One last thing. I was also impressed with Alex’s answers as to when might my wife need to move on to another facility for more advanced care, like memory care. He answered that at Alongside, they don’t have the strict delineations of care that the large facilities have. He continued that the smaller size and closer relationships between residents and staff fostered at Alongside allow them, in most cases, to keep the residents at Alongside even through hospice.
