RESPONSE TO ADDOLORATA VILLA (Owner): As mentioned in my review below, you already asked for a discussion to purportedly understand our concerns. This call turned out to last all of about 5 minutes, and the bottom line was that your establishment was finished with our mother. The 1 star reflects how Addolorata management abruptly announced that our 88 year old mother, who was hospitalized due to dementia-related symptoms, could no longer return to the community. With her advancing dementia, she needed memory care.  We were informed that Addolorata’s memory care wing was full.  Addolorata offered no temporary solution. We were left in a panic to find alternative care, only several days before our mom's hospital discharge. We received no assistance from Addolorata to find a new residence. They only gave us the names of two other memory care facilities. We soon realized that Addolorata had clearly not even vetted either of these places: - One residence had several recent 1 star reviews, including due to the presence of rodents and cockroaches. - The second place, which I visited, smelled of urine and offered decrepit bathrooms and no private rooms. Once Addolorata management became aware of our great disappointment in "dropping" our mother with no support, we received a request to speak to management to understand our issues. This turned out to be a perfunctory five minute phone call, with claimed miscommunications about whether our mother could have actually returned to her independent living apartment at Addolorata with 24 hour care (not a viable solution in any case, as our mom needed staff trained in memory care needs). During our mom’s 2.5 years at Addolorata, we had a very good experience with independent living and their staff (with the exception of the independent living coordinator, who was largely unhelpful, including sending us unhelpful and repetitive emails once our mother began to suffer from dementia-driven behavior). We had truly believed that Addolorata was driven by Catholic values. The chaotic and high-stress end to our mom’s care changed our views.

My mom had a positive experience at Addolarata sub acute rehab for about 4 weeks. She needed PT and OT and has many chronic conditions. The weeks before she entered she actually had been very seriously ill with pulmonary edema in hospice but recovered (so we suspended hospice) Addolarata was not afraid to take her as they had a lot of experience with different people. The workers are also very warm. Further parking and entry/visiting very easy. When my mom needed blood tests and one time an X-ray they were able to perform efficiently. The doctor treating her there was hard to reach but at least I could get a hold of the nurses for questions.

My Mom has been there over 7 years, in Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, and one period in Rehabilitation. The key thing is the respect that this institution has for each person, both the residents and the employees. The values of human dignity that the Catholic nuns founded it upon years ago have continued to dictate the way each person, regardless of strength or ability is perceived and treated. More practically, they continue to update the facilities and Mass is said live there daily. I can’t say enough for the people that work there. I trust them to do their best every day for my mother. I must add that the amazingly talented musician Jing is also a very special blessing for the Villa.
