Spalding County Senior Center

Spalding County Senior Center in Griffin, Georgia is a community center dedicated to enhancing quality of life and promoting total health and wellness for adults 50 and above. The center provides nutritional, educational, cultural, and recreational programs alongside essential services that support independence and active living.

The facility offers a comprehensive range of services designed to help seniors maintain their independence and live in their own homes as long as possible. These include crisis and supportive intervention, coordination of financial and legal education through community resources, transportation services, SNAP benefits assistance, assistive technology, in-home services, and housing referrals. The center also works to prevent isolation through community engagement and wellness initiatives.

The 27,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility was constructed in 2013 and features a café, library, fitness room, ceramics and clay studio, multi-purpose room, craft room, pool room, sewing room, and conference room. Support groups meet regularly, including an Alzheimer's Support Group on the first and third Thursday of each month at 3 p.m. and a Parkinson's Support Group on the third Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.

The center received statewide recognition with a Program of the Year Award for its innovative "Come Grow With Us" raised bed garden initiative. This program provides educational instruction in food demonstrations, tea making, hands-on planting, gardening and maintenance, harvesting, and composting. The initiative has empowered seniors to learn gardening skills, grow their own food, and build community relationships while discovering new interests and improving their health and wellness.
