My mom has been here a few years now and seems to be happy and well cared for. We talk by phone regularly which the staff readily accommodates. I'm too far away to visit but friends and family concur this is a great place for our dearest loved one

We had an excellent experience placing our Dad here! His Alzheimer’s disease progressed and he needed more professional care than he was getting. Smyrna Village Memory Care made the move so easy. It’s affordable, his room is nice, and the staff are kind & caring. He especially likes all the activities and field trips, and he tells us every day how much he enjoys living there. Highly recommend this place.

Dad has been at Smyrna Village for about 6 months now and we are VERY happy with the care he is receiving. The staff is attentive, patient, and extremely kind every time we visit. This is not the type of facility where staff members are on their phones or checked out—they are constantly providing care to residents, and it’s clear how much they care about our aging loved ones. Memory care is a very challenging phase of life, but the staff at Smyrna Village make it a whole lot brighter—we love Nataly, Jackie, Kayla, the whole crew!!<br><br>We also love following the facility on social media because we get to see Dad and the other residents on their field trips to the library, cafes, parks, and the local train museum, etc. So fun!! 😊

Moving my mother to Smyrna Village was a decision made with a heavy heart and it still weighs heavily on me, but it has proven to be the right choice for us both. The team’s attentive and thoughtful care has guided us through this transition with meaningful reassurance and a stabilizing sense of support. I’m grateful for the care she receives.

I have taken some time before writing this review because I wanted to be thoughtful and fair about my family’s experience. There were some genuinely wonderful people at Smyrna Village who deserve to be recognized. Nataly, the owner, and her son were both very kind. Nurse Jackie and ESPECIALLY Nurse Jessica were wonderful and demonstrated the compassion, professionalism and customer service that families hope to receive when entrusting someone they love to the care of others. I am sincerely grateful for the kindness and care they showed my family.<br><br>Unfortunately, my experience with the director, Kayla, was very different.<br><br>During my family member’s brief stay, there were several issues that concerned me involving medication management, falls and safety, dietary needs, communication, coordination with outside care providers, and keeping our family appropriately informed. I don’t believe it is necessary to share all of the personal details publicly. What matters is that these were legitimate concerns involving the care of someone I loved and trusted this facility to protect.<br><br>The interaction that ultimately changed my view of the facility began after I questioned how a medication issue had been handled. I was contacted about obtaining refills when there were only a few doses remaining. Because I had visited the facility several times and had spoken directly with the nurse, I was frustrated that something so important was brought to my attention at the last minute. I expressed that concern.<br><br>Instead of my concern simply being acknowledged and addressed, it was escalated to Kayla. From that point forward, my experience became very different.<br><br>When I continued asking questions about my loved one’s care and raising concerns about things I believed needed attention, I found Kayla’s responses dismissive, defensive and, at times, unnecessarily confrontational. During one conversation, she told me, “I’m not doing this with you,” and suggested that I “make other arrangements.” I was also told that communication regarding my loved one would no longer come directly to me through the facility and that I would need to receive updates through an outside care provider.<br><br>That was extremely troubling to me. Families should never feel that asking questions or holding a facility accountable will negatively affect their ability to communicate with leadership about someone in the facility’s care.<br><br>I was not looking for an argument, nor did I expect perfection. I expected communication, transparency, accountability and a willingness to address concerns professionally. When someone entrusts a loved one to a memory care community, asking questions should be welcomed — not treated as a challenge to someone’s authority.<br><br>I want to emphasize that my experience with Kayla was not representative of everyone I encountered at Smyrna Village. There are genuinely caring people there. Nataly and her son were very kind, Jackie was wonderful, and Jessica especially stood out to me for the compassion and care she showed. They represent what caring for someone’s loved one and providing good customer service should look like.<br><br>Unfortunately, leadership matters tremendously in a care environment, particularly when something goes wrong or a family member raises a concern. The way those concerns are received and addressed can completely change a family’s experience.<br><br>For families considering Smyrna Village, my advice is simple: stay involved, ask questions, document your concerns and advocate for your loved one. Pay close attention not only to the people providing the day-to-day care, but also to how leadership responds when concerns are raised. Anyone can be accommodating when everything is going smoothly. How leadership responds when questioned or held accountable tells you much more.
