I was in over my head with two parents that had dementia. My mom was hospitalized for a different ailment and it was then that we were connected with Right at Home in Fort Collins.

There are many care options to consider including senior homes/facilities, private party care givers/companions and other professional in home care companies. After research, interviews and suggestions Right at Home ended up to be the right fit.

The staff are well versed in dementia and utilize the SPECAL (pronounced speckle) method as part of their approach. They understand and have the skill to handle the varying moods that dementia folks can go through. The staff are patient and caring recognizing the need for a quiet, peaceful routine and familiarity.
The care team wear several hats throughout a day, with what I observe to be first the safety and well being of their client. They ensure a sense of calm support and join in (what my father wants) to be part of the family when they are here. They keep a watchful eye on my dad, communicate how he is, provide personal care/hygiene, engage in exercise and activities, go for outings, appointments, provide some household cleaning and meal preparation.

The management has been helpful to place staff members that best work with the needs and personality of my dad. I do believe that being in home whenever and for as long as possible is key (particularly for dementia sufferers) to provide the best ongoing quality of life. Having reliable, responsible, consistent, trained and caring people from a reputable company (Right at Home) is an important part of the equation.
