Rhode Island Veterans Home Community Living Center

The Rhode Island Veterans Home Community Living Center in Bristol, Rhode Island provides nursing care and assisted living for wartime veterans. Rebuilt from the ground up in 2017 on a 100-acre campus that has served Rhode Island's veterans since 1890, the facility is designed around person-centered care in a community-based model.

The home is organized into six residential neighborhoods to foster a closer, more personal sense of community. Living arrangements range from private bedrooms and bathrooms in dormitory-style housing to fully skilled nursing care. A dedicated Memory Care Neighborhood houses 32 private rooms. Comprehensive 24-hour nursing and certified nursing assistant care are provided, with four full-time doctors on staff to meet resident needs.

Medical services include physical and occupational therapy, an aquatic therapeutic pool, dental clinic, podiatry care, lab and X-ray facilities, and an on-site pharmacy. Residents receive free transportation to the Providence VA Medical Center for specialized appointments. Social work services assist with personal and family needs, and qualified VA benefit counselors help residents access available veteran benefits.

Eligibility is limited to Rhode Island wartime veterans who were honorably discharged and either enlisted from Rhode Island or have been state residents for at least two years. Residents contribute to care costs based on their financial means, typically set at 80 percent of adjusted net income. The facility is not a Medicare or Medicaid facility.
