Providence Seward Mountain Haven is a long-term care community in Seward, Alaska, offering residential care for elders in a home-like environment. The grounds consist of four homes designed for 10 elders, each with their own spacious bedroom and private bathroom. Common areas in each home include an open-air kitchen, family-style dining room, and a hearth for gathering, along with secure patios offering views of Seward's mountains and bay.
Caregivers provide high-level nurturing care while elders are encouraged to participate in daily activities such as cooking, planning menus, and choosing home furnishings and décor. Though the homes function like residences rather than traditional institutional facilities, the community maintains high-quality medical care with certified nursing assistants who have completed advanced training. Physical, speech, and occupational therapy services are available to help residents recover and maintain healthy lives.
The community offers comprehensive nutrition services including assessments, diet education, and food safety support tailored to individual health needs and preferences. A dedicated activity program provides meaningful engagement through large and small group activities, one-on-one pursuits, and individual programs including painting, arts and crafts, karaoke, bingo, card games, movies, and special entertainment. Community outings such as shopping, dining, movies, and scenic drives are strong components of the program.
Spiritual care is integrated into daily life through a Mission Integration Manager who provides compassionate service and visits residents regularly. Worship services are held each Sunday at 2:00 p.m., led by rotating local community churches, with clergy visits throughout the week. Singing hymns and special music provided by volunteers from the Seward community are popular activities. The Chapel in the Commons Building is available for worship, prayer, or meditation when weather permits.
Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to visit. Families can participate in activity planning, and the community promotes resident socialization and maintained contact with loved ones. The community's mission emphasizes serving all residents, especially those who are vulnerable, as expressions of healing and compassionate care.
