I went for a visit once, and discovered they use isolation techniques and put people in locked rooms, and called the LTCO about it. I have to say though, my family member is doing extremely well in this facility, and the interaction with staff has been very good. I havenʻt been able to visit because of COVID19, but will make my first visit in nearly a year and a half soon. When I was there, I witnessed the food served and it looks good quality. I wish they had the resources to be able to go out. My sister has been in this closed facility for a year and a half now and the outdoors is inside a caged enclosure, no access to nature. My sibling has been in a lot of different facilities, and this is the most stable she has been, which to me, says a lot for the quality of care. I am really grateful for this safe space.

I've never been there. However, I was in Woodview Calabasas Psychiatric Hospital in 1975.; (a requested Farrah Fawcett haircut being turned into a Mick Jagger shag). I fell into my 17 year-old predicted first Bi-Polar depression ( for my generation) and spent 7 weeks at Woodview. I could write a book about those 7 weeks but not only am I not a writer; I'm among many who have been in a Psychiatric Hospital. My point here is: Due to to the fact that I am not ignorant of the going-ons in a mental ward; I was disgusted and livid to hear how the patients are treated at Penmar. I spoke to a mother personally today. Does Penmar want to be renewed Camarillo. I was told that Penmar is worst than Patton (criminally insane; this patient was in both). Now they want her locked down for one year. Are you people of this procession crazy? Quit trying to undo Reagan's Deinstitutionalism!! Are you going to start vigoursly renew ECT (I know it's back). Or are you going to begin lobotomizing again. I heard the patients spit on the parents that were visiting. My grandmother was in Central Aislip, Long Island Mental Hospital for 40 years. Obviously, I am biased

My daughter is currently there. The first few months when I would come to visit the facility smelled so badly of urine and feces, (even in the eating area) that it was nauseating This past month I was there and it seemed to be better. There are no activities for the patients. IT is strictly a drop off spot for clients waiting to be placed elsewhere. Do not expect much assistance from the social workers, and most of the nurses are very inexperienced and can be quite rude.

This place is the hell itself!they treat people very badly I was there one of the nurses whose name was Alfonso pushed me to the wall because I asked for my prayer book! This hospital should be shut down! I can't believe there is such place in this century! They have a room it's like a prison with one bed they yell at the patients and put them for hours there and leave them there ,even if they need water or food they don't give them! If I had money and I had job I would sue this crazy place!they make the people to get sick more! Even my case manager was a rude woman yelling at me and she disrespected me because of my nationality! I can't blieve I'm out of that nightmare place! Thanks God with my own efforts and prayers I'm now in great health and even studying Psychology !

Could be a lot better. I just called as an 11-years sober survivor of depression with poetry to share, and they sternly stated we don't welcome outside people. Weird. I was a patient there for two weeks or ten days, I forget it was a while back; you'd think they might be interested in former patients, especially successful ones!!
