We had reached out to the NS care center about providing some in-home care for my mother in law who was going to be starting hospice at home. We explained what we were looking for and were told that would be no problem. The in-home coordinator Shanna said to just give her a call when we had a discharge date from the hospital and she would come to the home for intake. We called on a Monday when we found out she'd be discharged that Wednesday. There was no answer. We left a voice-mail, called two other phone numbers listed on their website and got no return call whatsoever. I even called the ABCM contact I'd initially talked to and she didn't call back either. Tuesday afternoon/Wednesday morning we had to rush to figure out some extra help since Shanna decided to not return our calls. Making the decision to place a loved one in hospice care is already a stressful situation, and for Shanna to ignore us completely after giving us the greenlight was extremely unprofessional and showed a lack of empathy toward the situation. If they could not provide the service, a simple no would have been acceptable, but blowing us off left us in a bad situation. If you are ever looking for in-home care for yourself or a loved one, I'd consider looking elsewhere. Thankfully Faith and Family Care stepped up in a huge way to be there for our family.
