Severe Mistreatment and Rights Violations at Monterey Healthcare and Wellness Centre (Rosemead, CA)! I lived at Monterey Healthcare and Wellness Centre, 1267 San Gabriel Blvd, Rosemead, CA 91770, between December 2021 and January 2022, and I need to share what happened there so others are aware. One night, after staff refused to give me a cigarette at the usual time, I became upset and started throwing small objects. As I walked toward another part of the wing, a male staff member came up behind me and forcefully twisted my arm backward three separate times, causing excruciating pain. I was not attacking anyone. Afterward, staff took away my personal phone, saying I could have it back once I was calm. Although I had used the charger earlier that evening in an act of self-harm, I calmed down soon after. Even then, they still refused to return my phone or allow me to contact anyone. Instead of calling law enforcement or getting help, one staff member mocked me and said, “What will the police do?” Because my phone was withheld, I couldn’t call for help until the next morning. When I finally did, the Sheriff confirmed it was considered battery. In my opinion, this facility violated basic resident rights by using unnecessary force and denying me access to communication. No one deserves to be treated like that, especially while in care and already in distress. I’m posting this publicly because I want transparency, accountability, and to make sure no other resident ever experiences what I did.
