I have been in health care for 28 years and I know this is not how our loved ones or veterans should be treated! I wouldn’t wish what we experienced at this nursing home on anyone. The way our uncle was treated in his final days was not just neglectful — it was inhumane and absolutely heartbreaking. Families put their trust in these places to care for their loved ones with dignity and compassion, but what we saw was the exact opposite. The staff barely checked on him. When he was completely unresponsive, nurses still tried to give “comfort meds” with applesauce — an unsafe, thoughtless act that showed zero awareness of his condition. Even worse, after giving medications, they never came back to see if he was comfortable or if he needed more. Some of them didn’t even know how often he could safely have medication for the “death rattle.” Instead of peace in his final hours, he was left struggling because the people who were supposed to know what to do didn’t. At one point his respiratory rate was 44 and we waited over an hour to get medication to help his breathing! To make matters worse, the facility was actually going to put him in a hoyer lift and transfer him into a wheelchair to move him into a private room — while he was unresponsive and near the very end of life. I had to argue with them to use common sense and simply move him in the bed. The lack of compassion and dignity in that moment was appalling. The first three days were no better. Not a single nurse aide came in to turn him, clean him, or even check if he was wet. When we confronted them, the excuse we got was, “Well, we give you your time to visit.” We were there morning to night — does that mean patients are left to sit in filth and discomfort just because family is present? That is pure neglect. But the worst part — the part that still makes me sick to my stomach — was how heartless they were about allowing family at the bedside when the end was near. At the hospital, their own recruiter from Medilodge promised us we could be there all night. Once he was admitted, we were told no family overnight. After arguing, they said they would “allow” one person, then maybe two or three if he was close to passing. How do you look a family in the eye — a wife, three children, and grandchildren — and tell them they might not get to hold their loved one’s hand as he takes his last breath? That is cruel beyond words. By the grace of God, he passed before midnight, because otherwise they would have forced us out. This facility failed in every way — medically, ethically, and compassionately. They showed us neglect, ignorance, and a complete lack of humanity. No family should ever have to fight this hard just for their loved one to have comfort, dignity, and the presence of those who love them at the end. If you value your loved one’s life and dignity, do not bring them here. P.S. we did appreciate the snacks that were brought in the last day and a half he was alive. You definitely kept up in that department one ⭐️

My mother-in-law was moved into MediLodge of Holland on 9/16. We visited her for the very first time on 9/18 — and what we experienced was absolutely unacceptable. From the moment we arrived, no one greeted us, no one gave us any direction, and there wasn’t a single rule or regulation posted anywhere. The facility itself looked neglected: paint peeling off the walls, a sink with a hole through the wall, and dirty floors. The bathroom situation was disgusting. My husband had to move a filthy portable toilet covered in feces and flush a toilet full of feces just to be able to use it. While he was in there, someone banged aggressively on the neighboring door and immediately tried to come in — almost walking in on him. Seconds later, a nurse named Janine barged into my mother-in-law’s room, aggressive and rude, demanding to know who I was and who was in the bathroom. She raised her voice, scolded us about using the restroom, and made the entire interaction hostile and humiliating. How are visitors supposed to know the “rules” when no one bothers to greet you or explain anything? My mother-in-law is a stroke victim. She cannot walk and cannot care for herself. During the two hours we were there (4:30–6:30pm), not one staff member checked in on her — besides someone dropping off her dinner tray. No one came to see if she needed the bathroom. No one came to see if she needed help. Nothing. She has told us repeatedly that the nurses are mean, and after this experience, I absolutely believe her. This place should be a safe, supportive environment. Instead, what we witnessed was neglect, filth, and staff behavior that was shockingly unprofessional. Families should not have to feel disgusted, worried, and unsafe leaving their loved ones in a facility like this. MediLodge of Holland has a lot to answer for.

I arrived at the building and was impressed. After parking and entering, everything was more impressive. More a feeling of a ski lodge without snow. The front desk personnel were happy, very helpful and efficient. Checked me in and directed me to my friend, a veteran. The hallway was wide, clean, inviting, and decorated with military memorabilia. A nice touch! My friend was in a large room with a window view of a very well manicured lawn. The care he was receiving was flawless and perhaps the best I ever seen. It could not have better! What a wonderful facility.

This place is horrible!!!! A family member of mine is currently staying there, and within FOUR days they had seen the ER twice. They are blind, and need all the help to get around, especially in a new place. The first time they had fallen out of a chair in one of their lounge chairs and there were NO nurses or any other staff around to aid in picking her up and getting her to the hospital. A family member who was visiting had to take her to the ER and had to have four stitches placed on her skull. The next instance, they had called for help to go to the restroom, she had waited as long as they could until they couldn't hold it anymore. They sat up in bed and tried to stand up to find the restroom, and fell to the ground. An unknown amount of time passed before ANYBODY noticed they needed help getting up. Of course my family member had wet themselves because of the lack of care provided. I would not want anybody to be treated this way, especially living in such dilapidated rooms. THEY ARE FILTHY AND UNKEMPT! Another thing to keep in mind, majority of the 5 star reviews you see are FROM the employees AND the administrator Ryan Vanderstelt. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES!!!!!
