I’ve experienced this facility twice now with two family members. My grandfather had dementia and suffered from incontinence. While visiting him, he expressed to me that he wanted to go to Bingo and Mass (which started at 3 pm) I expressed this to his nurse who told me that someone would come get him and take him to these activities. 3 o clock rolls around and no one has come to get him. 3:10, 3:20….. so I go to the nurses station and ask when he will be taken to bingo. His nurse was charting at her computer and said “we’re just really busy and he usually forgets anyways.” Needless to say, my blood was boiling. So I took him to bingo and mass. When he lived with my grandma and at Sedgwick Plaza (amazing facility and amazing staff) prior to rehab, he never once got a UTI. Larksfield did not keep him clean and he developed a very severe UTI. He passed away at this facility and when I was walking into his room I saw his nurse and a CNA standing in the hall. The CNA said to the nurse “room (my grandfathers room number) just passed away.” I saw his nurse roll her eyes. The staff at Larksfield has a terrible attitude. They’re incredibly defensive and rude when you call them out on their lack of care for your loved one. My aunt was then a patient there and was not able to walk on her own in the beginning. She would have to wait over an hour to be helped to the bathroom even though she would hit her call light. So she walked herself to the bathroom and they chastised her for it. Additionally, I overheard a conversation between a nurse and an event coordinator of some sort that went like this: “we will be having this activity outside today at about 2 pm if any of your patients want to come let me know!” Then the nurse said “I’ll just have to put them back in bed afterwards so probably not” MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE!! Do better Larksfield.

My mother just spent 3 weeks in the rehab/skilled nursing section of Larksfield place. She received excellent care by the nursing staff and administrators. This was a stressful time for both my mother and myself but was relieved somewhat by the staff. The aides that helped with daily care were especially wonderful giving mom special attention and even spending their breaks in her room. Alex the director and Tracy the discharge coordinator helped us find an amazing assisted living home. I can’t say enough good things about all staff.
