Juneau Pioneers Home

Juneau Pioneers Home is a residential care community in Juneau, Alaska, completed in 1988, currently serving 49 Alaskan seniors. The home provides care ranging from independent living to those with extensive physical and memory care needs, and is an Eden Alternative® Registered Home dedicated to quality of life through an environment rich with plants, animals, and community engagement.

The home is nestled in the wetlands along Juneau's Egan Drive with breathtaking views of nearby mountains and the Gastineau Channel. Living in this wilderness setting provides residents opportunities to view wildlife including black bears, eagles, ravens, blue herons, kingfishers, porcupines, deer, and squirrels.

The facility is organized into four neighborhoods, each supported by a team of residents, caregivers, support staff, family members, friends, and volunteers. This neighborhood concept fosters an atmosphere where residents, particularly those with dementia, can feel safe and appreciated, with individuals encouraged to be creative in developing a caring community.

Daily life at the home features abundant activity and animal companionship. Residents help care for a variety of caged birds, and friendly cats roam freely throughout the neighborhoods providing companionship. The Great Hall, dining areas, and neighborhood corridors are adorned with fresh flowers and household plants, creating a vibrant living environment.

The home is committed to compassionate care that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit while preserving the dignity and individuality of residents. Staff focus on meeting the diverse needs of elders across all care levels and are passionate about supporting residents, staff, families, and the broader community.
