On 12/23/2023 I went to ER because of accident from wire wheel to my nose and eyelid. I never received any billings from that incident until I come to find out on May 20 2025 through my Credit Karma account that I was sent to collections over grand total bill of $2,104 dollars. I went into Humboldt Memorial yesterday to clarify what happened and why I didn't receive any bills til two days ago that it went to collections. They sent all my billings to an address I haven't lived at in 14 years! So I was sent to talk to Allison whos in charge of billings and she let me know what could be done. She called me today and said that she talked to nurse who treated me that day and that the nurse said that was the address I provided to them Biggest lie I've ever heard through the phone. If they would of taken my ID or even asked me for my Up To Date address or even my girlfriend who was there at time with me would of supplied current address. Allison even went on to justify mistake by saying do you have relatives living at that old 14 years ago address which I don't whatsoever. She went on to say since billings weren't forwarded that they were considered received. I spent exactly one hour in the ER that December and they managed to rake up the bill to astounding $2,104 dollars. They didn't even do stitches and couldn't even supply me with eye patch just gauze and generic take home medication. I'm so thankful I kept denying the nurse a CT scan they would of tried racking up bill to $10,000 for one hour! This hospital doesn't even do pregnancies and that's all you need to know and really I don't see how they keep the doors open except cashing in on the eldery in inpatient.

Jacob Miller was nice and answered all of my questions, but I wasn’t given any information prior to the procedure. Warning about billing- I had to be seen prior just to get my epidural ordered. My bill was $300. I called the insurance to ask why I’m not being charged a copay, and they explained that it is because the location on my claim is listed as an outpatient hospital. I explained it was a very brief appt with an NP, but I was told my only option was to call Humboldt and ask them to change the claim to a physician office visit instead. I tried doing this and I was told they are listed as an outpatient hospital and that seeing the pain clinic is elective. If you have copays, the pain clinic in Humboldt is not a good choice. You’d be better off go to a primary physician and seeing if they will order it instead. $300 to see the NP for 10 minutes, only to leave and get a call asking 5 minutes later asking me to come back because she forgot to give me the exam. 😂 Definitely will be canceling my follow up to avoid another $300 bill.

Always get the best care while I’m there. I could be seeing my primary, lab work , infusion center, radiology, therapy or to the ED. They are wonderful people and take great care of me and you can tell that they enjoy their jobs! Thank you to everyone!

Most rude and disrespectful ER nurses I’ve ever met. I ask for a simple doctors note because I broke a bone. They gave me one that said I can go to work the next day... I’m on crutches and in a boot. So I go back and ask for a new doctors note stating why I can’t return to work for a while. I get treated like I’m mentally ill because I need a new slip and it’s the end of the world because they have to take the time to fix a mistake they caused. Never coming back if I get stabbed I will drive 20 miles to a different hospital. Btw don’t roll your eyes and turn your back on your patients and look at the other nurse like the person coming to you for help is wasting your time!

I know Humboldt has a small hospital, but don't let that stop you. I have had to come here 4 times in the last year. We have had to use the ER all 4 times. ER staff - Kind, knowledgeable, comforting, understanding, quick. ***One nurse did such an amazing job putting an IV in on my 9 month old, that when we got transferred to Iowa City's childrens ward, our Humboldt ER nurse was praised no less than 3 times for doing such a great job. It was a really big deal for what we were dealing with, and Iowa City was impressed! ER facility - rooms are incredibly clean, and uncluttered. Comfortable as far as ERs go. Even the ambulance driver (Kevin, who had to take us to Iowa City in a snow storm) was amazing. My husband looked at Kevin, who was going to be driving his wife and baby girl, and said "Be careful my whole life is in that ambulance." Kevin said with all sincerity he understood and would take the utmost care to get us to our destination safely. Wait times have been non-existent every time we walk in to the ER, x-ray, or pharmacy. They have always taken care of anyone who comes in with the patient. Kids get toys, snacks, drinks. Parents also get accommodated/helped, both emotionally and physically as well as any other kiddos who had to come along with the patient. The staff MAKES this hospital.
