My 95 y/o mother was given false hope by Amber that she would be able to move in this July. Movers were hired and she had boxes packed ready to go. Last minute she was informed by Amber that corporate denied her entrance as they stated because she did not honor her contract with another facility she had left over two years earlier. Amber knew this information as to why my mom left the previous facility, all legit reasons, and told her it would not be a problem. Family has tried calling Sherry, who is CEO at corporate. She finally returned our call and informed us it was the administrator’s decision. We called the administrator, Steve, who was adamant that he was not going to allow her to come in. It appeared to me after talking with the assistant Administrator, Marcy,that no one had the correct facts as to why she left the other facility. There was no one to advocate for her or help her to alleviate her problems she was experiencing. She did one time talk to a lady from Shawnee alliance about her concerns who said she would report it. My mom saw this lady some weeks later and asked it anything had been resolved. The lady said she reported it to the wrong department and never corrected her mistake in reporting it to the correct department. At that time, she was private pay and was placed in a Medicaid room because a couple of the other rooms could not be heated in the winter time. Between that and the toilets overflowing and seeping under the walls and on to an area where residents walked along with a few more concerns she decided to leave.<br>My mom is currently in a Medicaid home and not happy at all living there. She doesn’t feel safe and doesn’t get the help she needs. She was so happy thinking she would be able to leave the Medicaid home and now that she has been denied at the last minute she has lost all hope. She is becoming more upset and confused as a result of the stress she’s been put thru.<br>There must be some way seniors living in long term care facilities, especially those that don’t have family nearby, can have the respect and consideration they deserve when they pay thousands of their hard earned money to these places and don’t get all they are promised for their money. Then they blame the resident when they are unhappy and leave after trying their best to be heard. Instead, I’m told by this administrator who won’t allow her entrance that it’s her fault she wanted a better life at her age and expects better when paying lots of money to live in these places. My mother has always paid her bills in full all her life. She’s not some low life wanting a free ride as she has been made to feel.<br>So if you are planning to put a love one in a place like this make sure someone is there checking on them daily and watching the facility and the way it runs. Don’t believe everything Amber tells you either. She doesn’t have the authority to make the decision if someone is accepted or not. She has caused a lot of pain and tears. My mom had tried calling Amber for months with no return calls as well as a cousin has tried to reach her. Finally, I had gotten a hold of her in June. She told me at that time she had been out sick and then took a vacation and had just returned back to work. She said things were very chaotic and she was trying to catch up after being gone for so long. So why didn’t somebody call my mom or my cousin or me and tell me Amber was out sick? My mom was sitting there waiting for months after being told she could move in July but not given a date in July. Somehow, I got the feeling that Amber screwed up making promises she couldn’t keep and then behind on the paperwork needed for admission. There was just so many problems and screw ups with this. It’s like one hand doesn’t know what the other hand is doing at that place so beware!

My mother lived at the Voyage in Herrin for 5 1/2 years. She had a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia, they rode the roller coaster of the disease with us and they were very compassionate and caring to myself and my mother. When my mother was in the care of hospice in the last week of her life they loved us through it with meals, drinks, and kindness. They brought some of her friends to the visitation and some of their employees even came to pay their respects.<br>I will say as with any healthcare facility over the years there have been some ups and downs with some of the workers but the past 2 years they have had a solid and caring team. As my mother's condition declined and she was able to do less for herself they allowed her to stay with my daily assistance. It was our goal to keep her here as long as we could and they honored and respected our wished. They were affordable as my mother was not well off and if it was not for the program they have with shawnee alliance for seniors I don't know what I would have done. One last thing, when I went to clean out her apartment, they left a card and this beautiful picture for me of my mom at her last Christmas party. I will never forget their kindness and love.

The Voyage Senior Living in Herrin Illinois has literally saved our mother's life. From the very beginning Karen (Who has since retired), Marcy, Carolyn and the entire staff have been there in support of not only our mother, but our entire family. The decision to move our mother from her home of nearly 50 years was both painful and heartbreaking. The staff at The Voyage Senior Living made this transition effortless. They were, and have remained respectful of our wishes, no matter how trivial. They have gone above and beyond our expectations while providing a healthy, safe and comforting home for our mom. The care she receives from each and every one at this facility is beyond measure. The personal interactions with the residents are also a true testament to their vast dedication, while establishing the essential trust to those in their care. As a family, our deepest fear, has become our greatest joy. During the toughest times this world has ever endured, we have had total and complete faith in the thoughtful care our mother is provided. She is thriving in an environment of love and security, during a time of confusion and uncertainty. The absolute peace we feel as a family, and the assurance that our greatest treasure is in the gracious hands of this remarkable team is without a doubt the greatest blessing!
